Those are some lovely photographs of the opportunists among the eggs!
 
Zig, great photos...when were these taken? Last Year? Been keeping an eye out for them (at Vets) and only saw about 30 egg casings in December....none since.

The first two pics were taken at Empire Landing at Catalina in November 2011. The others were taken two weeks ago at Kroll's at Catalina. I have not seen any squid this year...just their eggs. The eggs at Kroll's and Empire went on for as far as the eye could see.
 
We found a bunch of eggs and freshly deceased squid at Long Point, Catalina a few weeks back. We were in 45 feet. A couple divers went to 95 and found squid actively mating. I'm hoping scubaboard lights up as soon as anyone sees them!
