Hey all,

I am about to take the advanced open water class and I was told that I need a compass. I looked on Amazon on they run over $100. Why are they so expensive. I was expecting no more than $20. I was also wondering what you should use to write on your dive slate that is included with the Adventures in diving manual.

Any suggestions for a clip on compass?

"Borrow" one from a golf course. :D

Or pay $2.00 for one with a cord. Dive Rite Pencil Graphite with Cap and Bungee at LeisurePro

I was curious what kind of dive compass you were looking at on Amazon that cost $100 but couldn't even find anything that expensive, which one were you looking at?

If you have something like surgical tubing around you can often work the end of a pencil into a piece then tie it to your slate.

Bought 2 of these. Thank you!!

I typed in scuba compass and everything ranged from $65 - $100. One looked like a keychain and was $175.

Never had a need for one before.

You weren't taught navigation in your OW class?
