going there aug 11-15 any cool land stuff to do.
First off, Stuart Cove is a person, not a cove, i.e. Stuart Cove, not Stuarts Cove.

With that said, I found it to be a little on the quiet side there. I stayed at Orange Hill. The closest hotel to Stuart Cove. Great place by the way. Very friendly, quaint, treat you like family. Judy the owner, and the staff are the best ! My typical day there was dive all day, go back to the hotel in the afternoon, relax, go down to Compass Point for dinner and libations at sunset, back to hotel, review pic's from the days dives, re-load the camera, watch tv, sleep, and go the next day. I don't think Orange Hill is considered part of Cable Beach. My perception is that the closer you get to Downtown Nassau, the more there is to do, i.e. Casino's, shopping, etc. While it was rather quiet where I was, I actually prefer it that way. Being from Los Angeles/Orange County, lot's of people, giant hotels, casinos, shopping doesn't exactly thrill me when I'm on vacation. I like to dive, eat the local foods, and meet the local people. With that said, you WILL have a great time there. The staff at Stuart Cove's are great !!

But it, pretty much, is a cove and it's run by a guy called Stuart :D

Cable Beach is where a Casino is (Wyndham hotel i believe). It's the north coast about middle island. (Named after the first hard wire Comms cable layed from FL, if i remember my history) It's currently the site of a large redevelopment. (Baha Mar) It's currently a bit of a mess, frankly. Life still ticks on but there is an inevitable impact.

I'd surf around the net a bit and get some intel. With a little research i think you'll find plenty to do/see/enjoy. Have a scoot around google earth too, if you get a chance, to understand the lay out. It's only 27 miles wide by about 8 deep but the current road works are causing some hassle for getting about.

Good luck!

We were there on Cable Beach some years ago, 2004. We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the beach. I'm pretty sure the hotel changed hands since then. We were going to dive with Stuart but got blown out by hurricane Jean. About the only thing we found to do was rent moto-scooters and tool around the island while waiting for the big blow.

We were warned to stay out of the town proper because of crime. I've heard the same advice still applies. Of course being the adventitious type, we went into town anyway and ate at one of the local restaurants. I'm not a fan of the local cuisine, you however, may be.

Across the bay is Atlantis which could be fun for a day, if your so inclined. We found it interesting to watch the cruise liners pull into port and off load the cattle, er passengers.

Atlantis is a pretty big hotel and is a destination attraction itself.

You can go through the Casino, lobby, and a very small part of the aquarium for free. The rest of it costs you big $$$.

you can buy tickets for just the aquarium or get a day pass. when you see the cost of the day pass, your ******* will get so tight, it will go in shock.

the day pass gets you the beach, the slides, the aquarium.

There is no such thing as something "cheap" at Atlantis.

This warning applies to about every island in the caribbean and any other tourist city anywhere.

I've found that as long as you stay in the "main tourist areas" you are ok. sadly, those are pretty boring.

worst I've seen in crime is some guy trying to sell me weed there.

As for what to do.... you can go to the beach, go on a tour, and that's about it. Nassau is pretty boring. The other islands can be too, but at least they are small and relaxing and have their own character and charm. (out islands).

Mike_s is pretty much spot on! Crime is a problem here. Last month we weathered the highest murder rate in the recorded history of the Bahamas (ZNS said). Now this kind of crime rarely affects the tourist areas.....but is also somewhat inclement regardless.

There is much to do and enjoy here. Plan ahead or research. Give us an idea of what you enjoy and we'll be better placed to answer. Clubs, pubs, beach, night life, inland activities, other islands, sting ray encounters, dolphin tickling, gambling, spear fishing, blue holes, dog fights, local food, shark wrangling, monster trucks etc...

Okay okay, kidding with the dogs and the monster thing....
