Hello,
not really for blind :) , but if i have less than perfect vision, what are the good masks are out there , you would recommend. Would be interesting to hear about ones, that can be adjusted, in case the vision will improve/degrade.

Thank you.

There are 2 flavors of prescription masks.

In one version the lenses are eailly swapped out and the LDS or their supplier stocks standard prescription lenses for field installation. These are nice especially if your need is single focal.

The second version (like mine) takes almost any mask and a specialist optician bonds corrective inserts to the inside. These can provide your exact prescription, in my case bifocals. Ther are mail order houses that do these and most shops have one that they work with. Either one of you can send the mask form modification. For best results the mask lense is marked for your pupil positioning as it rests on your face so a trained hand is helpful here.

If the first version will work for you then you stand a chance of salvaging the lenses from a damaged mask and moving them to a new one. With the bonded version your options will be dictated by the specific mask. The bonded inserts also let you have a single main lense if that's a style you prefer.

Since working the system requires dive shop inventory it's best to go see what is carried locally and to go from there.

A third option would be Contact lenses and a standard mask

A foruth option is the Hydrooptix 4.5DD as it corrects for in water vision in a range of -2.5 through -6 (depending on age and an individuals eyes etc..) So it might be worth looking into as well, especially if your eyes are a match for it. http://www.hydrooptix.com

Personally I'm about to try Option 4 after using an Rx mask with replaceable lenses (the mask frame is starting to fall apart unfortunately)

I have pretty lousy eyes (+2, +2.5 and lots of astigmatism)....I tried the stickon lenses for gauge reading and they worked but I couldn't see further, clearly...that was a real bummer since the whole reason for diving was to see what was around, down there...

Anyway, I went ahead and sent my eyeglass prescription to SeaVision along with my order for one of their masks and have been delighted since. They grind the lenses to your prescription, adjusted for the different refraction underwater...They aren't the best glasses when above-water, getting ready to dive, they're like your prescription from 2-3 years ago(when you reallllly needed new glases)....but underwater, they are as good as your regular glasses are above water...

They offer several styles and both clear and black skirts and offer clear or tinted lenses...they work with most dive shops and can also handle direct ...

Only other issues I can think of is they STRONGLY recommend not using tooth paste(or any other form of abrasive) on the lenses (pretty sure they're polycarbonate, not glass). They have their own brand of anti-fog (I think) and most other liquid ones work fine too...They keep a record of their mask lens shape so I guess you could order a new lens or new pair if your eye's change (without having to send in the mask)...

(no relationship with SeaVision other than a Very happy customer)

Another option that I like is the AGA mask from ocean technology systems. You wear the mask and buy a kit and you can attach a special set of eyeglasses inside the mask. You may be able to do this with any eyeglasses, I am not sure on the details.

They are not attached to the lenses but at attached to the mask somehow.
