I'm a Fish!
This has probabaly been brought up a million times before, but which kind of fins do you guys like better? Split or not? Heel or no heel? Just wondering to see which one is liked best. :)

Kayla:)

Scuba Pro Jet Fins! No gimmicks, just a damn good fin.

Kayla, when you ask for a sound bite that's what you get. Me, I can't even clear my throat in less than 8 paragraphs, so I'll just give my equivalent of a one word answer:

Dessault long fins, full foot
Apollo split fins, strap
Mares Quattro, strap

I'd like to try the Atomic splits.....

I have heard good things about split fins, but I'm wondering.... whats the difference?:)

Kayla:)

Without excess verbosity, the difference has to do with the performance work ratio. Splits propel the diver faster than board type fins and with half the effort. Rodales is very enthusiastic about these fins, and they hardly ever lose their cool. (G)

Some divers, DIR types and such, seem to hate them. There are plenty of threads on the subject.

alright. thanks. I will have to check out the threads, but thanks for your information also. :)

Kayla:)

Open heal Blade style fins.

I like open heal fins because I like to wear a boot even in warm water. I don't care for split fins because the don't really suit my kick very well. I mostly dive cold water so I wear either boots with my wetsuit or the boots on my dry suit.

I believe many people hate them because they only work with one type of kick, and are therefore only useful in rec diving.

Tech divers (particularly cave divers.. AFAIK) like to frog kick so as not to stir up sediment, and split fins aren't very useful for that.
