HELLO from Hemet California!!!!

Just want to say what a cool board this is!!!! I found this board at work about 3 day's ago and have been lurking every day(probably get fired over it)haha. Well I've always wanted to dive and am finally at a point in my life where I can make it happen. I dove last year in Hawaii with my son (12 years old) what a dream come true for both of us !!!! We will be doing our PADI OW cert in Dec and get 2 dives at La Jolla Shores and 3 at Catalina.I am a little concerned about the cold water but that I will have to overcome.My son is a fish in the water, I'm sure he will do much better than me.

To much to learn.

Hi Tom,

John here. I'm from Vista. I got certified in May with my wife and two of my boys (15 and 13) and we've logged close to 30 dives now, most in SoCal. There's a strong contingent of SoCal divers on this board and plenty of experienced ones to learn from. We have monthly shore dive/BBQs and monthly boat dives too. We would love to have you hang out with us here:California Kelp Divers > So Cal.

Anyway, let us know how your OW certification goes and don't even give a second thought to the cold water! You will be so in awe you won't even notice it.

Tom, I had to deal with the cold water up here in Canada. But many up here take other options during their course. I wrote an article about this in my website below. See the articles section for scuba diving and there's one about getting certified.

Hello Tom and welcome to Scubaboard! Don't worry too much about the water temp. We did our certification dives in Laguna Beach and Catalina. With the proper exposure protection (wetsuit), you'll be fine! I didn't even think about the temperature with all the new cool experiences. Enjoy!
