I'm taking my ER-doc self and my family to Ambergris in a couple weeks; 15yo daughter is PADI advanced certified and will be diving, with her own equipment, with experienced inlaws, but wife, 11yo son, and I are green as can be, thinking of completing open water cert in Ambergris while there for 9 days. Diving and snorkeling booked with Reef Adventures and (for Blue Hole) Amigos del Mar. Words of advice? Cautions? Encouragement?

Recently returned from Ambergris and can say you'll have a great time no matter what. Located near Amigos del Mar is a very small dive shop called Belize Ocean Divers, run by Scuba Steve. Ask anyone who looks like a local and they'll be able to point you in his direction. Steve is very reasonably priced and open to diving wherever you may be interested. In my case, he was able to take me directly toward some sea turtles. SUPER AWESOME experience. Have so much fun!
