I'm new to the board and looking for current water conditions around the Ft. Bragg area. Family and I are planning a trip at the end of next week and trying to get a better idea of current diving and weather conditions.

Planning to dive for Abs the final 3 days of the season before it closes in July so any suggestions where to try are welcomed. Been before, but always looking at seeing new coves.

We are bringing along a 21 ft Parker for some salmon fishing so any fishing reports would be appreciated.

Thanks

Glad you found us! This is a great place to spend your SI, but watch out, it's addictive!

check out the NC Wreck Divers forum, folks there might be able to help you out some.

Not sure on where you plan to dive around Bragg.....help me out here. In Raleigh there is a quarry,....Fantasy Quarry...has a website of its own.

About an hour or so away is White Lake. Not the greatest diving.

Two hours away is Wilmington....some great diving.... try www.aquaticsafaris.com.

Right now off the coast I would wear a 3mm full suit and thats about it...no hood. But that is all depending on how cold you get. Had some great shark contact on the Hyde and Markham just a short while ago.

Drop a pm if you wish.

I think the Fort Bragg Finfan is talking about is here in northern California... :)

We are planning a trip this weekend but a little south of Ft Bragg in Salt Point/Gerstle Cove area. I would try these sites for local info:

http://www.mendocoast.com/ (click on sea conditions)

http://weather.mcn.org/

http://www.fortbragg.com/

As for the Abolone hunt...I like the cove right by the salt point campground. I haven't tried farther north, but I am sure there are plenty of good places. I usually dive with the tanks first...drooling all over these huge abs littered about on the rocks, then I am so pumped I come back later with the irons and snorkel to try to find them again!!! Good Luck!!
