The wife and I are going to Playa Del Carmen in September (7-11). This will be our first time diving there and the wife's first time diving in salt water. We will be there three full days and are planning on diving on two of the days. Should we spend the third day doing the snorkel with Whalesharks? What is your experience? Will there be any that late in the season? Who should we use? Thanks for any info you can pass along.

We were diving with Blue Caribe really liked them a lot, so we signed up with them to do the whale shark tour. Unfortunately, we had terrible luck. The weather was not so bad as to cancel the trip early, but it took a turn for the worse after the boats left the dock, and an hour out on the water, we had to turn back. (We were informed that this was the first time within anyone’s memory that the boats had to turn back after departing.) So we basically wasted half a day (starting at 5:45 am!). However, Blue Caribe has a guarantee policy that you’ll get to swim with the sharks, so we had the option of getting our money back or re-scheduling. We tried to re-schedule, but once again had really bad luck with the weather. At least this time, they cancelled the trip early in the morning before we the hotel, so we didn’t waste the day. We were bummed, but at least it didn’t cost us any money, and Blue Caribe was great. We are returning this year and will probably try it again with them.

hello, check out www.whalesharkswimcancun.com, direct whale shark snorkel operator.
The season is over Sept. 15.
we can monitor for you and inform you if the sightings continue or how the season is going by then.

Her first ocean dives - great! :thumb: Do hire a private DM the first day to buddy with you two as it'd be money well spent.

Snorkeling with the Dominoes is great! Take your own snorkel gear and wet suits so you don't have to use rental gear or wear life jackets that slow you in the water as it is hard swimming to keep up with them. If the weather is nice, it should be a great experience for you.

Nice site. Looks like a good service including ground transportation and onboard heads. You mention economical rates but I didn't see any posted?
