my name is Jade howard i am the child of the women who died 9/5/11 i would like to thank you all for the information, and your kind words. I would like to thank the young man who tried to save her, and her memorie will live on, in the eyes of her only grandchild delhia who turned 8 weeks old today. she had a wonderful life and will be missed dearly. In one day my family lost a sister, mother, daughter, and a grandmother. Thank you again for everyones support.

To Jade and all of your family and friends, we are so sorry for your loss. From what I have read in this post, your mother was an amazing women with similar passions to ours. We feel your pain and will keep your mother in our memories.

Hi Jade,

My family and I were on our boat when your mom's diver buddy surfaced for help. We just happened to be moving slowly past the Casino and heard her screams. We thought she was the one who was hurt but quickly learned that it was your mom who was stuck below. My dad stayed on the radio the entire time calling for help and detailing the emergency. We felt so helpless not being able to dive down to help your mother and over the last two days I have wondered why we were there at that time. I believe it was to pray. I just want you to know that from the moment we heard, we began praying for your mom and for your family. We never stopped praying throughout the day, and still every time it has popped in to my mind I have prayed for you. It was such a tragic day and one I will never forget. The young man who rescued your mom was the first diver on the scene and was absolutely a hero... such a brave young man. I believe his name was Kevin. I cant imagine the pain your family is in over the loss of your mom, but hope that you find some comfort in knowing that people are praying for you, your family and your mom's diver buddy. She may have been panicked, as any of us would have been but she did everything in her power to get help quickly. I hope that our prayers will bring some peace for everyone. Again, I am so sorry for your loss...

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

I want to offer my condolences to you, Jade, and your family. I know the woman who was your mom's partner. I am so sorry for your loss, and have your family in my thoughts.
I also want to mention that the other story about the guy in the kelp was also a friend of a friend of mine, and it is true how he was caught up in the kelp. One friend was able to cut himself loose, but the other was not. A sad, tragic day for all involved.
My heart goes out to the ones who lost a loved one.

.If I should die beneath the sea

If I should die beneath the sea --

What e'er the circumstance may be --

I only ask that you not cry

For such a lucky one as I.

But, rather, weep for those alive

Who know not what it is to dive

Into the planet's liquid heart

And of God's ocean be a part.

For even Christ must envy all

Who stroll along the ocean's wall;

Though wind and sea His will obeys,

He only walked upon the waves.

And may I ask for one thing more?

A simple cross beside the shore.

Below my name inscribe for me:

Lost to the earth, but found at sea.

R.I.P Debbie

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am a new diver as well and I was present at the park when this tragic incedent took place. I have been touched by your story and will think of you often.

Please let her dive buddy know that we all know this was a very unfortunate accident and there was nothing she could do to change this, it was inexperience, if there were a way to change what happened we all would but there is not..I would have been scared to death and if low on air as well.. and totally unsure of what to do.. if you dont make it to the surface there is no help.. I'm sending a virtual hug out.... its okay honey..

When we lose one, we all lose... (shaking his head) Regardless how one is lost the hole left is vast! I hope all of you find peace as it will take time...

Best wishes and most sincere condolences; lee

To everyone who has taken the time to post what they know about Debbie's accident, thank you! She was a friend of mine and a wonderful person. It has been so helpful to understand what happened. I have been a diver for over 10 yrs. It is so extremely frustrating to know that the outcome could have been different if only they were with experienced divers or even a group dive. The young man who rescued her is a hero! He is truely a hero! My heart and prayers are with her family.
