For the nearly 1 million Americans a year who survive a heart attack but are left with a failing heart, a recent research breakthrough that successfully demonstrates the ability to convert scar-forming cardiac c...ells into beating heart muscle provides hope for their future. Thanks in part to funding from The Roddenberry Foundation, research and tests conducted at the Roddenberry Center for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine at Gladstone showed the ability to transform non-beating cells that normally form scar tissue into beating heart-muscle cells, creating stronger-than-ever hearts.
This breakthrough finding may result in a much-needed alternative to heart transplants, for which donors are extremely limited.
The global impact of this research is remarkable so make sure you share this with your friends!

Whole Foods making some sustainable decisions despite angering New England fishermen. The point of this is that the message to the fishermen... needs to be - "get sustainable or we're not going to buy your catch!" The more consumers demand sustainability, the more fishermen will adjust and the better the health of the oceans. - Please share

Why do I keep beating the drum about plastics? Because plastic is choking our oceans, and therefore our planet, to death! Please read and share - this is a critical problem that we need to resolve before it becomes too late!
This is truly aggravating. In today's world where too many creatures are killed for no real reason, places like this are perpetuating a trade in animals that has no place in today's society.... - DM Jim

“In the end, only the increase in greenhouse gas concentration showed a physically plausible link with the observed sea-ice retreat. We expect a decreasing sea-ice cover for increasing greenhouse gas concentration, which is exactly what is observed,” Notz explains. The physical link between greenhouse gas concentration and sea ice is quite straightforward, he adds: “Greenhouse gases increase the downwelling thermal radiation. This radiation, in turn, is the major player in the heat budget of Arctic sea ice.”
