I didn't include any of the sony ilc as the issue is the same the lens 16-50mm is 24-75mm equivalent and actually the rx100 mark III has Xavc at 50 Mbps whilst the a6000 only the usual AVCHD progressive. So wouldn't bother

I hear ya. The 4:3 are becoming really popular as a compact solution for DSLR's as far as photography is concerned. Most of them need their respective branded lenses to use their full features and are expensive. That's a turn off for me.
I was considering the Sony A6000 briefly as a new topside camera but for what I'm looking for, a more traditional DSLR like the Nikon D5300 will likely be my pick.

So the Panasonic LX8 is not far off? I wonder what advances it may have. 4k is neat but I don't need it. It'll be a while before 4k screens are mainstream or I get one myself.
