JD, welcome to the board.

I'm just north of Alpharetta, Ga., and would love to join you on a few local dives. I'm always anxious to buddy with, and learn from, a more experienced diver...

By the way, I'm in IT myself, and your name sounds familiar... We can figure that out later...

I'd like that, need to get into local diving. We'll be back from Curacao on the 23rd. So shortly after that I'll report on the trip. And hope to have some photos to post.

I'm back from Curacao. Did lots of diving and had a ball. Took over 500 uw photos.

Now here's a benefit of doing photos when you can't see well. I shot a photo where someone was looking. I had NO idea what they were looking at, didn't see anything. Well in the photo I clearly see a flounder:)

I did see fish, BEAUTIFUL coral, and an eel. I didn't see things like shrimp, no way.

Could almost read my computer, could see my analog gauges as far as the needle. But explained my limitations or concerns to the DM and said I may show you my gauge for conformation. After a few dives she told me my air was always right what hers was. That makes this old man feel good.

Also did some free diving, no problem to 30' and swimming around. Really had a ball.

Now I'm ready to do LOTS more diving,

I just posted a bunch more photos in the Gallery. Check em out. Sure wish I could see the camera controls when I'm underwater. Even above I have to use a hand magnifier of about 4x so I can set up the camera. I actually got a couple of critters I didn't even see when I shot the photo. That's always fun, 'oh look what was right there."

Great photos! You shoot better than a lot of sighted divers. It must be your "shoot first, ask questions later" style. :D

What kind of camera do you use and do you have any special enhancements?

Do you use anything like this? ReefNet Inc. | SubSee Magnifier

Great shots, JD...

I envy you, your trip --

Thanks I do enjoy photography, always have. I think partly because I don't see well, I really appreciate the visual world.

No I don't use anything like that Magnifier. I didn't know about that, but now. Wow would that ever be of a huge help. I'm ordering one.

Hi JD. I am also visually impaired due to a genetic problem with my optic nerve. There were a couple of threads here from myself and another legally blind diver here but they seem to have disappeared into the archives. I share your frustration about not being able to get to dive sites as I can not drive and always need to find people willing to carpool. I've managed to make it to the Gulf a few times, but wish I had the means to go more often! I just got certified last fall, got my AOW a couple of months ago and I'm addicted. :)

They didn't disapear,I can see all 171 of your posts.:D

Doll Fin, I missed your post, glad 300bar pointed you out. Glad to hear from you. Gosh we should get all the VI divers we can and do a trip. :) Really mess with the resort or boat.
Do It Easy I left out of my last post what I'm shooting with. This was the first trip for me Sealife ReefMaster Mini with External flash and wide angle lens. I didn't realize that it date stamps the image until late in the week:-( Why would anyone want that.

And again thanks for pointing me to that magnifier, gosh is that EVER gonna help.

I know you can find them that way, but someone just wandering in here wouldn't know they were there.
