I dove Smith Lake in Vidor Texas this morning. Given that the visibility was 3 to 5 feet (and the 5 is generous) I guess I now qualify as a DIMWIT. My log software has a dive highlight section and I had to include the fact that we found the toilet. It is attached to one of at least five sunken boats, which were, admittedly, fun to find. I plan to return to take an underwater nav course at some point, the conditions are absolutely perfect for it--no cheating whatsoever!

You gotta love diving in Texas. The dive fee is $5 a person and you deposit it in a mail slot--the honor system thrives in the Alamo state and left me with a good feeling.

The way I understood it is that you have to dive WITH a swamper to get swamper status. It's like a disease - you get it through buddy sharing

But I am open to being wrong if someone wants to correct me...

Ah, Smith Lake. Brings back memories... I only remember 3 boats though, I may have to get out there next time I'm in town to do some rooting around.

Well, I dove with my buddy, so if he is a swamper that makes me a swamper. But he probably isn't a swamper but if I am a swamper for diving in a southeast Texas mudhole than that makes him a swamper and likewise me a swamper. Whoa! I'm getting a might dizzy--let me finish this Shiner and I'll get back to you.

OK - so maybe you can be a swamper, but I dont think you can be a Swamper until you dive with someone who will then share membership with you ...

Someone with more seniority should probably weigh in...

My DataMask said 18', and that was at the bottom. We did not do the whole lake--my diving buddy is squeamish in low viz ;-)

so a 20 ft deep mud hole in Vidor, TX... I might have to go dive this just to say I did.
