Going to be making my anual trip to South Maine (Old Orchard Beach) and am looking for tips on the best dive sites in Maine. Can anyone offer info on the best shore loctions or quality charter opperations that will make hauling my gear there worthwhile?

Check out my Dive Site Guide. OOB puts your right in the middle of those locations.
Prime choices include:
Ships Cove in Cape Elizabeth
St. Ann's Beach in Kennebunkport
Nubble Light in York

Maine Divers Scuba Center out of Portland runs weekend and weekday charters per demand.

You can also make your visit know on our dive club's forum. You are also welcome to join in on a scheduled club dive, see here. We of course dive regularly through the season, communication is key.

Let me know when you are coming and if schedules work out I'd enjoy sharing a site or 2 with you.

Hey Pete! Thanks for your responce. I would be interested in doing a dive or two with ya', my fiance is certified but she only dives tropical, so it would be nice to have buddy with knowlege of the good sites.
I arrive August 1st. Do you belong to that dive club you directed me to? (It's a handy site).

That's sounds great, we should be on vacation that week too. Your wife will be just in time for our tropical dive so she should pack here gear! See here. You have also nailed the mildest water of the year and we can make some ocean dives that bottom out right around 60F at that time. My wife enjoys dive outings with other couples if that helps entice her!

I am involved with the Maine-iac Divers club and Scuba Knowtes is my own sandbox.

In the ocean, will a 7mm farmer john be enough? I don't own a drysuit. I will likely only have time for two or three dives max so what are your picks for the very best sites in south Maine?

A two piece 7mm will be fine; I dive a 5mm one piece from late May thru late October.

Nubble Light is a must-do. Let me know when you're going to dive it and I'll see if I can join you.

I hear Nubble is good, but all the "best" sites I know are about 5 or 6 hours drive north of there, in the Eastport area.

Excellent! Are either of you guys free during the week? I arrive on the first and will need a day to get situated. I've never dove in salt water before, how much weight do you guys usually need?

I might be up visiting some friends in Cape E about the same time that you are planning on being in ME. I have never dove in ME but I am always up for a dive and might be able to convince my friends to dive as well.

We're on vacation that week with the focus on diving. We should be very available.

Plan on 6-8 pounds more than your fresh water weight with all other things equal.
