Ellen, you were right. Thing is, someone has to tell divers the truth, right?

PF, what makes you such an expert on the crime on Bonaire? If memory serves me correctly, you have been there once and had no issues.

PF If I were you I wouldn't go to Bonaire! Especially since you declared WAR on the Island Nation! :angrymob::catfight::m16::hijack::deadhorse:

It''s not I that has declared war on Bonaire but it's the criminals that steal divers gear and do break ins on tourists. I guess you can had the Bonaire "police" to that list, since they do nothing to curtail the crime on such a small island
:shakehead:

I don't recall any exchange with you on this or any other topic, but, you see, it is not my experience on Bonaire that is the issue but the hundreds of people that have reported being victims of crime on that island. Are you just going to ignore all the persoanl acounts of the crime victims on Bonaire and how ineffective the Bonairian "police" are? That's foolish, Howard:shocked2:

I'm sure you've read countless accounts of posters on this and other boards that have reported being victims on crime on Bonaire? Do you think they are lying?

Questions for YOU, robin. do you think the many many people that have been robbed on Bonaire are lying? Do you find it at all suspicious that the Bonairain Gov does not make public a crime list on tourists?

I've been to Bonaire 3 times, last Nov 2008, stayed at Sand Dollar, used Bonarie Dive & Adventure. Nothing bad ever happend, much good did. The diving is fantastic. I'll be going back, those that don't like the island or are afraid of it, just shouldn't visit.

Roatan, especially CoCo View, sounds great, I bet I would like it there and hope to visit soon.

Good diving, Craig

There is much debate as to what is the best diving on Roatan. So if there is such debate about Roatan, how can one expect to throw another island into the mix and expect to find a difinitive answer to the question of where is the best diving?

The answer is to experience it for yourself. At this point if I had a choice of a trip to Bonaire or a trip to Roatan it would be Bonaire because I haven't been there. That way I will have my own opinion and can decide if, one is better than the other. Both places have their positives, based on personal preferances involving the many variables. Every one should be so lucky and have to make a decision about which taste of carribean paradise should I sample.

I have been to both locations more than once and will return to both.
Next time you visit notice something......

What kind of weapons does security at COCO View carry and what kind does security at Buddy Dive carry.

COCO View - Shotgun - 45 pistol - large flash lights that could double as a club
Buddy Dive - regular flashlight. (Don't know if there is anything in the guard shack)

Just food for thought!

Growing up in Hawaii (Oahu), with tourists leaving valuables in cars all over the island, petty theft was a common occurrence and you learned to keep NOTHING in you car and the doors unlocked. That is good advice anywhere, any time.

While in Bonaire, the owner of my LDS had his room broken into - they drilled holes and pushed the locking pins out of the sliding door on the patio - and cash stolen while they were sleeping.

My wife and I are going to Bonaire on the 22nd for a week. The info here will help us avoid any problems and I appreciate it. I will let you know how we fare, dive-wise and crime-wise.
