I just picked up a used Sea & Sea DX-8000G camera with a wide angle lense, this is my first underwater camera. My question is, does anybody have one of these or used one, that has any pointers, it is blowing my mind how many setting are on this camera.

I had the 8000G and loved it. I have since upgraded to the DX-1G. One thing I would suggest is use the ADJ lever on the back to adjust the exposure value (EV + or - 2) to adjust the light when underwater. Pics that may look washed out can be helped by adjusting the EV. I always shot in sports mode because I wanted to ensure that my moving subjects would not come out blurred. If you click on my 'photos' link under my name and view my Fiji pics you will see some pics taken with the 8000G. If you are new to underwater photography, I would suggest a couple of online courses that I took and found to be very helpful. I took the "Introduction to Digital Underwater Photography" and the "Digital Workflow & Image Manipulation for Underwater Photography" from this site: The Underwater Photographer, Underwater Digital Photography Classes: Improve your underwater photos. The courses were very helpful and reasonably priced. I found both Marty and Bonnie to be very helpful in that when I had a question I would email them and I always received a prompt response.

I would learn how to use the manual setting on the camera first. Then read this

I would also recommend that you get a decent strobe (YS 27DX or better). Most of the buttons and controls you will only use occasionally, the manual F-stop and shutter speed are the most used, learn them well. Don't worry to much about the wide angle lens yet, get the normal stuff first. That camera took great macro shots for me and I really think that is it's best feature, use it and you will be happy....

I run dual strobes on mine. Just one really made a differncebut 2 opened a whole new door. all my uploaded images have been shot with this camera (though i just got a Nikon D90 and am searching housing options).
I carry a white board to set manual whitebalance, crank the aperature to the biggest number the sensor will allow and adjust shutterspeed manually to compensate. usually leave the strobes at max with diffusers on them. one for fill and one for subject.
for macro i set the exposure metering to spot, most of the time center weighted and for wide angle i set it to full frame.
Only real issue is that the camera strobe is taking a long to to recharge so with flash i only get about 2 shots a minute. it is driving me nuts. My memory tells me it was faster when I got it.
Obviously, looking at my shots, i am no pro, but i have really p/o'd alot of guys who could afford DSLR but could not by a clue. Have fun.

Found this thread and have a question about my 8000G camera. Several of the functions just stopped working - zoom, delete, pic forward and back. Any suggestions or is it time to get a new camera?
The camera does have quite a few adjustments for a point and shoot. I have yet to master their use while underwater, but just bought a strobe for it to use on a cruise that I was going diving. The strobe makes a night and day difference. I am currently shooting with the camera in manual mode with the f-stop set to the lowest setting (largest aperture). That way I am just adjusting the shutter speed.

I never had that problem with my 8000G so I don't think I can help you. I assume other functions do work on the camera. You can send it in to get it repaired or get a new camera. I have seen 8000G cameras for sale on ebay and I think that would be your best bet. I'm not sure how much accessories you have for the camera but I know that the wide angle lens will not fit on the DX-1G or 2G so if you upgrade you will have to buy new lenses.

Probably time for new camera. It still takes pics and videos but no zoom, delete functions. Camera is five years old and used about 450 dives. Thanks for your input.
