It's been such a long time with no news from Sea and Sea. Was anything announced at DEMA? Has anyone seen the new Nauticam D90 housing? I need to buy something affordable by February and thinking Aquatica if nothing better comes along.

The Nauticam is indeed shipping and is awesome! Really great, one control switch from live view to video. Wonderful one lever cam lock on the ports. Very small and ergonomic. Rubberized handles, fiber optic connections or optional hardwire.

They have a good set of ports and focus gears that's growing and support many popular lenses. As well, Nauticam supports ports from S&S, Nexus and Ikelite - with others soon to follow.

This is the best D90 housing out right now and it's a winner! I've ordered a D300 model and will be getting it next week.

Price is $2300 for the housing.

yes, the Nauticam is definitely the way to go for the D90 camera. Its a bummer that it had not come out sooner...however it is now here and what a beauty! The designers at Nauticam took their time working out all the bugs before releasing the housing.

Pricing is just right too, smack in the middle. A bit more the Ikelite and Aquatica...but definitely cheaper than Hugyfot and Subal...a real winner!

Other than the price, what would you say are the advantages of the Nauticam compared to Subal? I heard that in the future you would also be able to use Subal ports??

Yes you will be able to use Subal Ports.

Advantages:

1. PRICE! huge difference ($1450 difference)

2. Ergonomics. The Nauticam housing has superior control ergonomics and the video function controls are VERY easy to use via right thumb access.

3. Port versatility. Ability to use your current ports from major manufacturers. Subal is already on 4th generation mounts.

4. Fiber optic capability.

5. Nauticam 180 viewfinder is awesome! Easy to use, more forgiving with eye position, can be used on nearly all major housing manufacturers' housings (with adapter). Also has manually adjustable diopter

6. Port locking system is very nice. No need for removing the back of the housing to unlock or lock ports. No rotating of ports means less chance of protruding oring.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Mike,

Thanks a lot for all the info. Seems to be a good purchase. I am waiting to see one in reality. From the webpage I saw that they do a housing for the D300s. However I seem to recall that at least one US webpage also mentioned a housing for the D300. Can I use that one for my D300?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks Mike for the info. Will Nauticam make a housing for the D300? The more I read about the housing the more I like it. And the savings is substantial compared to the Subal one.

Not sure if Nauticam is controlling the D90 pricing, but every outlet has it for $2,300. Is anyone offering any discounts for bundles (housing, ports, strobe, etc)?

I'm new to this housing world but it seems to be the only industry that supports a new product without handson testing.
The Nauticam appears to have some well thought out and novel ideas. Has anyone actually tested it? How long has this port system been in use? How many times has one actually been "Cycled" in the feild?
I find it strange that with cameras, cars, motorcylces, etc. we all wait for feild reviews (well, the smart ones) before buying or at least claiming that it the new best thing.
Has this industry always reacted this way to the untested?
