My fiance's family own a home in Allegan, MI. We're looking at heading there for the weekend of the 22nd/23rd and we'd like to do some diving. Are they any charter boats between South Haven and Holland? (Any that are possibly GUE friendly?) I've never dived that area of the lake before, what are the don't miss wrecks (within rec depths)?

Thanks
Nick

I think you mean you're looking for a charter in SE 'Lake' Michigan or SW 'State of' Michigan, rather than SE Michigan (Detroit region).

Not nitpicking... but your title lured me in and wasn't quite what I expected geographically. :)

I second Tim with Advance Scuba.

What is a GUE friendly charter service?

GUE or Global Underwater Explorers tend to be more technical type divers. They have a tendancy to carry more equipment for research and exploration. I don't think that they consider themselves to follow a dir format. They do tend to use doubles, stage bottles and scooters though so a boat would either need to be big enough to accomidate all the gear and /or friendly to these guys or gals due to the amount of equipment they tend to carry.

Welcome | Global Underwater Explorers

Tim Marr takes tech divers out on deep wreck dives so I would then think he is GUE friendly.

What is a GUE friendly charter service?

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious, sort of. I can assure you, he knows what GUE is. However, the question remains ... what exactly is a GUE friendly charter? Charter boats take divers to dive sites, in this instance shipwrecks. What does GUE or TDI or IANTD or PADI or etc, etc have to do with it? You're a diver on a boat getting a ride to a site. What matters to the Capt is if you're qualified to safely dive the site he's taking you to. If you are and if you have money ... than he or she is your biggest fan!
