Thank you for the info Sabbath, that was very informative. I am not an attorney, I am also not a direct friend of Ben's. I simply know people who are close to his parents and I feel tremendously sorry for the their utter loss. I originally started reading this thread for more information. A few people, and I truly mean just a few people, commented in ways that were well beyond informative information on the incident and were moreover only attacks on a man they do not know. If I, who was not his friend can see an attack, then how much more will his friends and family feel that attack personally? It is not necessary. To speak of the dead in such a way is neither constructive nor informative, and while this cant be controlled it can certainly be defended. Their is a difference in discussing the wrong of what he did and attacking his personality.

so what is your real purpose here?

He's not even a friend of yours, much less family....

have you thought about the posts you've made and the responses it's generated and what effect that might have on family members reading? :shakehead:

This is beginning to smell of a Troll.

please folks lets not put this on the dive shop about keys to the gate. this is not what went wrong here!! how do i know? i was the last diver to see this man on his way in to the cave wed. night on a dive. how he made it thrue the gate will be out soon, but i can tell you it was not a key from the dive shop. this man was not a cave diver or cert. to be one. when will peaple learn?? our hopes are that we will have this man out of the cave today. i pray for this man and his family and i pray that peaple will train for this type of diving. ( a final note just because you have tech gear does not make you a cave diver as the case of this 30 year old guy.)

Guys - Lets not turn this into a pissing match about the actions. No one wins. People are coming from two different camps on this and will never see things eye to eye. Lets keep this about the analysis of the accident and try to leave as much analysis of the person out of it.

It's one of my requirements in a buddy. And I'm sure there is at least one person here on the board that will attest to personally getting an earful from me over something that happened during a dive.

Its a way of life we have to live. Those that can't take it needs to walk away.

Watch this video about 2:17 in. It will show you how tight you can get without removing tanks. These guys are removing tanks, so it's smaller than that.
Does anybody find it eerie that Wes Skiles shot that video?

Not really, 100's of people (myself included) have done that dive. Since it's mostly sand/rock bottom, it's not really that bad (not a learning spot, either). That being said, some of the stuff Agnes Milowka and James Toland have explored together would scare the daylights out of me. I'm guessing they chose this video because in comparison to what they've done, it's very tame, and easy to video tape.

Anyways, it was more for perspective, so let's not derail the thread!

No, only because he loved the caves and help get cave diving to where it is. Maybe if he died in one I might think that.
