Just wondering which one of those is better than your experience with HOG?

I dive a HOG rig & my wife dives an Edge & we are friends with the owner of our LDS who is a ScubaPro/SubGear dealer. We actually both use the XP10 dive computer. But having experience with both of them I personally don't view one as better than the other.

I like the price point of HOG, true, but what got me was their customer service. From the top down, I have had the best of experiences with HOG & their dealers & I have used 3 different dealers to make my purchases. (DRIS, Jim Lapenta, Dive Gear Express)

So anyway, just genuinely curious as to why you thought one was superior to the other.

just my.02- i know this ruffles the feathers anytime someone is not praising hog regs here on this forum- i personal found something different for me and im not knocking hog-

also found it weird you dont find many people(actually none that i talked too or shops that i have gone to) that even know about hog.

I just like products from a company that have been proven since the 60's and dont see them going anywhere

Price- was similar in price from the quote i got from Jim on the hog. Casey @ Beaver Divers has awesome prices on subgear and scubapro product!!!

Quality-cant go wrong with scuba pro - been proven for decades!

customer service- Casey at beaver divers was one of the nicest guys i have debt with from a shop in a long time

parts availability- guessing since the mk17 and s600 have been around for along time there should be parts for them when i go to cozumel or most of my LDS

service
availability- same as above- most shops service scuba pro products around me- closest hog dealer was over 3 hours away.

again- just my .02- not bashing. im sure the hog is a great reg.

Didn't think you were. Just curious! Sub Gear was actually my wife's second choice for regs, but considering she doesn't dive as much as me, the price of the Edge became a bigger factor for her. But I have been using the Sub Gear XP10 in one of Tobin's wrist mounts & have nothing but praise for it so far. My wife got the Sub Gear console with the XP10 & she likes it as well. Very staight forward computer with everything we need & nothing we don't.

Hmmmm. . . I see a price of ~$540 for a first and second stage sg-1000. My understanding is that SP whacks the pee-pee of anyone found discounting their gear.

Having just purchased a setup from Jim, I got a D1 cold-water first, two HOG seconds, a nifty yellow cover for the primary, a pressure+depth SPG, hoses (including 7' long and inflator), a DIN to Yoke converter, and a regulator bag for about the same money.

In an apples/apples, I wouldn't expect to spend more than about $210 for a first and second.

That's either projecting or trolling...

Eitherway your arguments don't really add up. The only way the price is similiar is that they are both quoted in $USD. They both have great quality and customer service is a function of the LDS not the manufacturer. Many Hog dealers are known for great customer service. Parts availability doesn't make sense either. Hog dealers will sell you the parts no questions asked. Try getting a SP dealer to do that. Since you can get the parts the service availability doesn't make sense either. Any LDS should be able to service that reg. Oh, and you ordered out of state for your reg so the point seeems moot.

Anyways, I've seen your posting history since you joined and it's pretty clear that you made up your mind from day one. That's fine, I really don't care. If I found a decent price on a SubGear or ScubaPro I'd dive that also. Doesn't take away from the fact that Hog was a great choice for me.

jim wanted 350 for 1st and 2nd with swivel and yoke conversion. lets say beaver divers has great prices.

just goes to show you there are other options for great product as low prices too.

???

so let me drive 10 minutes to my local dive shop or even an hour- NO HOG.
let me go to cozumel or other destinations to get parts or service my equipment if i have an issue- NO HOG.
what? I have to mail it out and get it back ???
that make up my mind right there.

i ordered out of state because of the prices- i will get my stuff serviced here local - 10 minutes away from my house.

Im guessing you were using projecting when you thought i had my mind made up from day one- which wasnt the case- I do a TON of research on EVERYTHING and to each their own.

Im glad hog works for you and others- it doesnt for me thou.

Im a member of alot of forums and actually owned one for a while and its always the same at each place- one shop has a big following because of marketing and great prices and if someone doesnt say some nice about that shop or product(even thou you didnt say anything bad) you have a bunch of chrpai's out there to say something against you like you are the black sheep.

as a neebie im glad there are forums to learn- just hard to drink the koolaid on a product that is only popular here on this forum. hard to beat 50+ years in the biz with product development.

For HOG D1 1st & 2nd?? I have to ask who is the seller. Last year's Black Friday deal from DRIS can't get this low.

I found this is untrue. All LDSs in my region, who is NOT HOG dealer, won't service HOG regulators. Not because they can't do it, it is all about liability. It is not specifically to HOG, LDS just won't service anything that that are not officially authorized to do. And I tent to believe this is the most likely case inside United States.

I am still trying to figure out what to do when service interval comes up on my HOG. LDS isn't likely. Most likely DIY if I can catch one of their course in time

Quite a lively thread alot of knowledge out there.. NO the MARES was not a rental made a rookie mistake and purchased befor getting wet.. The Aqua Lung Legend is good,, i know that with shopping around and research i can get similar performance without the cost.. I contacted dive right in scuba,, they advise that the HOG second stage will work fine with the mares 1st stage,, so i may try that after my open water sunday.. My only question is can I get a DIve shop tech to service a hybrid set up., I will ask Dive right in if they would if I mail it in for service.. A HOG 2nd is less than $200 and it seems i would have a good set up, the dealer in Stuart listed by HOG not in business. Thanks.

My bad, I apologize and I misread the invoice.

That is a great price on the SubGear reg, does the SubGear have price controls like SP?

50+ years in the BIZ yes, but product development? There best breathing reg is what a 25yo model they brought back so they could stay in the game? Besides raising prices what has all the R&D got them? The regs we have now have changed very little in design over the past 30 years.

im sure they do- but that is advertised price restrictions. Im not saying that it was the same cost as the hog- but very similar in my price range i was looking to spend.

So dont quote me on pricing - give Beaver Divers a call for your self is anyone is interested the sg-1000 or any other subgear or scuba pro gear.

For all the neebies out there too - do the research outside the forums too. Call multiple guys/shops and ask questions about gear if you have questions. Find someone you feel comfortable with at a shop and stick with them. As a prior sales man i can see through BS and sales pitches. I personal found Casey to be the guy i only want to deal with and im sure will deal with him for the rest of my diving equipment that i need. He is truley that honest on all the gear i had questions about; as he has tried most of it out there. Im sure he has been diving for longer that im sure i have been alive so has experience with it all.

sorry for talking up Casey and Beaver Divers so much but it is rare that i found someone like him that has spent countless times with me on the phone with questions- even on product he doesn't sell just because i valued his opinion that much. I knew i was going to get an honest answer and not a sales man answer of- that's good but what i sell is better.

And so i dont get "well all my hog guys are awesome" Im NOT to saying that there aren't other great guys out there that too but out of the guys i talked to there werent any that stood out.

Sorry - time to get back on track with this thread i started.
