Water temps should be in the 25C to 27C range. For me that is way too warm to need a 5mm but you will need to judge that for yourself.

At 25C I'd likely get a little cold on a second dive in a 3mm. We're all a little different.

Bula Fiji followers and soon to be visitors. Yay on all of you guys visiting Fiji, one of the most friendly places anywhere. The locals really make visitors to Fiji feel like family no matter which resort you choose to stay with.

My wife and I have been diving around Fiji for the past year and a half, starting on the Coral Coast (name is a little misleading) as well as the Sunshine Coast (which is not as misleading). For our divers who are coming in the next few weeks to a few months please be prepared for cooler water temps. Most of our divers (Northern Tip of Viti Levu in the Bligh Waters - same area as Nai'a and the liveaboards) are diving in 3mm-5mm. Water temp as of yesterday was 77 deg. F and can drop down as low as 75 deg. F. (23-25 deg C). For those who are doing longer than 1 hr dives or more than 2 dives a day I would recommend a 5mm suit, and even a possible hood for the 4-5 dive per day divers. If you have lots of "Natural Insulation" or just are not as much of a thermal wuss then you might be very happy in a 3mm. (Hint: If that 5mm is too warm you can always try diving with it unzipped.)

Diving out of Nadi is not the best diving in Fiji, but can still be a lot of fun, just don't expect those world class reefs like we see in the Bligh Water or off Taveuni etc. Viti Watersports is one of the operations straight out of Nadi area who does diving and the owner Mike is a very upstanding Scotsman.

If you have a few days to get out of town then you can come visit us on the northern tip of the main island. It's about a 2.5 hour drive or a 1.75 hr taxi ride. :) We dive the same areas as the Liveaboards (unless we have bad weather) with amazing reefs and schooling fish like you would expect Fiji diving to be like. If you want an honest opinion give us a call when you're in town and we will be very honest about where we can dive a few days in advance. (Contact info can be found in our Signature).

We hope this helps and please everyone travel safe and enjoy your visit to Fiji.

When does it warm back to 80F? My wife and I keep thinking of visiting your resort but I don't think my wife will be happy unless the water is 80F or more.

We start to see water temps back up to around 80 deg F in October and peaking around 84-85 around Feb/March. Many people are turned off during our summer because our vis is lower than during the winter (which makes sense as the trade winds cause an ocean upwelling which brings colder, clear water) but I prefer it because of the lack of wind producing calm oceans and nice warm water so I can just dive in my vest. I'll take 60' vis and that any day of the week. :) Hope to see you guys out here this season.

I had my honeymoon at Wananavu, and absolutely loved it! It was a different operator then, which is a good thing for now. The boat sinking on the first day wasn't a good sign, but it all worked out for a good trip regardless.

I've heard great things about the new op at Wananavu and have been following them on Facebook (haven't heard of any sinking boats).Good stuff!

Hi Karasic,
In Nadi you have the choice of diving in Denarau with Whitetip (Whitetip Marine Adventures - Fiji - Home) or going to Scuba Bula at Momi (FIJI- Scuba Diving Fiji - Scuba Bula Dive Centre - PADI 5 Star Dive Resort & SDI/TDI 5 Star Dive Centre). Dive Adrenalin is not currently operating, but may be by the time you get here. I also would strongly recommend the shark dive at Beqa, either with Aqua-Trek Beqa or Beqa Adventure Divers.

Hintermann,
For us Fijians, the water is cold (around 77 degrees, depending on where you're diving). For most visitors, that's still pretty warm. If you're on a liveaboard and doing 3-5 dives a day, I would recommend the thicker suit, especially if you have a tendency to feel the cold.

Happy diving in Fiji!
