I know that different parts of the country are experiencing different things, but based on the videos that are surfacing on LiveLeak over the past 24 hours, there's no way I'd head over there right now. People being shoved off roofs, attacked with machetes...nope. Not my cup of tea.

I second the opinion of staying away for the moment, this is unlike the 2011 revolution against the regime (it was regime forces against people)... today it is more like people against people, small scale incidents so far and I hope it doesn't escalate more.
It is not only in Cairo as it used to be before, it is extending to more places...
people who feel that they have the right to choose freely and others who see that it is going fine that way and want it to continue.

I have a Red Sea liveaboard booked for October. Some airlines are allowing the cancellation of flights for free. Mine, however, is with Egyptair and they insist everything's ok. Essentially I won't lose more money for waiting a couple of weeks to see how it all develops. Otherwise, I'd cancel now and go look for an alternative.

Time to lurk the other forums to find an alternative. So, what was that other diving site, close to Europe, with Caribbean water temperatures and cheap liveaboards?

It could very well calm down by October (it's only Early July and you have around 3 months), so I wouldn't rule out Egypt this far out.

I'm taking a huge loss. The liveaboard company is not honoring a refund. They too are saying everything will be ok. Now I'm waiting on the airlines to respond to my request. In the mean time I had to buy a new return ticket to LAX from Dar Es Salaam... The travel insurance company said my losses are not covered since I didn't enter Egypt. It's been a difficult decision.

Dena that sucks! Insurance companies always pull that BS. See if you can route a return through Alexandria, get your passport stamped and fly home. Then you would have been in Egypt.

I'm with you both, we just found out our trip is being relocated. Probably going to take a bit of a hit, but I'll take a two week vacation with a liveaboard anywhere buy Egypt right now.

I won't be going near that part of the world anytime in the near future.

Just came back from a week l8ng liveaboard last night. No problems anywhere whatsoever. On tourism the locals dont really care about politics. Hurghada, Sharm and the red sea are safe. I wouldn't recommend visitin Cairo right now though.

Shocking! Which travel insurance do you have?
