Goose poop. LOL. Well now I've heard everything.

You guys dive in that? eeeuuuwwww... :)

R..

It's just a question of scale :) - many countries pump raw sewage and human waste direct into the sea, it's all floating around out there somewhere.

The entire state is a comfort station along the migration route for the canada geese. If there's a hole with water it's surrounded with goose crap. Canada geese here are getting like the deer and turkeys. They are almost as numerous as pigeons in the cities. Big winged rats.

One thing we do for ice diving with non sealed regs is drop the IP to around 124-128. Works most of the time IF everything else is ok. If it were me I'd just buy a new sealed first stage.

I just took it into the shop and this is what we think happened. The conshelf is an old reg and I was pushing my limits with the 80 foot 41 degree water. It froze and because the BC has an air2 which essentially is a 2nd stage it free flowed and when that backed up the one in my mouth began to free flow. If I had been diving my BP/W I would not have inflated.

All of my equipment checked out fine and I trust the guy who checked it. So I'm thinking I need to get a cold water regulator since I am a cold water diver.

Huge learning experience for me.

Can you explain the difference in this situation between the BC and the BP/W?

I specifically asked him if that would have happened with the BP/W and he said NO. Because the air2 on the Scubapro Bella BC is a regulator whereas the inflator hose on the BP/W only inflates.

So if my BC only had an inflator hose, then it would not have inflated.

Thanks!

Probably couold have removed teh lp hose from the BCD

I have a question about what could have been done, not what caused the problem. If there was enough time to do so, would disconnecting the BC inflator hose have helped?

All you need is a coldwater first stage. after what happened with the air two freeflowing I'd seriously condsider saving that as well for warm water only dives. Even cold water firsts can freeze up. Rare but happens. Not using the air two in those temps is just a little extra insurance.

I am not sure I understand why a normal BC would not inflate if the first stage delivered air at too high of a pressure.

However, I think that one of the MAJOR safety benefits of an Air 2 (over a standard inflator) is that the much larger fitting is much, much easier to manipulate and pop off in an emergency such as this.

Post the video.. it will be cool to see a real scuba failure..

Also, I wonder... if an AIR 2 is over pressurized it will free flow.. just like any other regulator.. will it also inflate the BC simultaneously, or would the freeflowing action prevent the BC from inflating?
