Yes. I should not be diving cold water with the conshelf. I am working on getting a cold water sealed regulator so I don't have this problem again.
 
I don't normally panic, because its counterproductive.

There's a dive T-shirt, if I've ever heard one. I'm going to remember this one... :wink:

Way back when, I had a Conshelf with a silicone cap on it... It was good in cold water, but regs have improved a LOT in the years since.

Have a look at the Apeks DS4/XTX 50. A lot of us up here use them and they're pretty much impossible to freeze up, as long as the IP is set properly.
