Hi,

I'm in the very earlier stages of planning a trip to Raja Ampat. I think I have narrowed the lodging down to Papua Explorers Resort. Anyone have any feedback? Any surprise charges at the end of the stay? (I've read that about some other resorts in the area.) Good night diving on the house reef?

Thanks!

Billy

Hi Billy,

been there 2 weeks in Dezember 14. One of my best dive vacation ever ! Very friendly and helpfull people . Great setting. If you get the time between diving, try to paddle with the kayak to the next mangrove bay to the west. Take the snorkeling gear ! Below my report

Been there twice. U won't regret. Biggest surprise is ur beer tab? They did lowered beer price.

Night dive & snorkel kri house reef, I found baby moray, large crabs & hermit crabs, & walking/bamboo shark!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm considering this trip. It seems to be an adventure getting there from the USA.

Hi Billy ,I don't know how hard is getting there from USA ( I live in Italy … ) anyway you have to fly to Jakarta and then with Xpress Air you can fly directly to Sorong ( the only one direct flight Jakarta - Sorong at the moment ) . Then 3 h by boat to get Papua Explorers Resort . A long trip indeed !

Hi Billy, I am taking a group there in April. The logistics of getting there are really not that bad. It takes a long time but the itinerary is pretty simple. I see you are in Texas. You can take a Singapore air flight out of IAH all the way through to Manado then take
a Garuda flight from Manado to Sorong. That way you do not have to route through Jakarta. The flight from Manado to Sorong is a little over an hour and costs about $220 usd.

Hi Parrotman,

Are you building in any layover days in your trip in the event of a delay somewhere along the route?

Thanks!

Billy

Hi Billy,

Yes, we are laying over in Manado on the way down and again on the way back. The flight out of Manado direct to Sorong is at 4am and then the flight back from Sorong to Manado is later in the day but too late to safely make the connection for the international flight.
