But of course Tres Pelicanos, at about 275 dives in the last 2 1/4 years they still constantly impress me. 7 more days, I have been off the island for 59 depressing days now.

I have to agree. Many dives under my belt with Tres Pelicanos (the first of which was very shortly after they opened for business) and always impressed with how things are handled. From seeing Steve (the owner) work with a completely blind diver who was doing his first ocean dives, to how things are handled when something doesnt go right (lets face it, stuff happens to/with any op and the key is how they respond and take steps to make sure it doesnt happen again), to how quick Steve's response is to discovering that something just doesnt quite meet the Tres Pelicanos standards.

I just returned from doing 64 dives with Tres during a six week trip to Coz.

In addition to seeing Steve work with the blind divers, early during the trip a new young DM was given a shot (with another DM on board at all times) and when his performance was not really optimal during a dive, he was not seen on the boat again.

Tres purchased a second boat during this time period and immediately started altering it with the end result intended to bring it as close to the high standards set with the Skinny Shark as possible. One of the first was having a custom ladder made to replace the less than ideal one it had. I dove off the boat a couple of days and, even though I am old/fat/crippled I found the new ladder to be adequate, but just a little shorter than I prefer. Knowing that the vast majority of people do not have nearly the problem with ladders that I do, I didnt mention it. Several days later Steve dove the new boat (it was called the Small Shark but has been officially renamed the Loan Shark) for the first time. After that trip, he took the new ladder back to the shop immediately to send it off and have two more rungs added :) That ladder would have been fine for most people and leaving as it was would have been cheaper while most likely not resulting in any complaints....but it wasnt quite up to Tres standards, and so it was modified :)

Just a couple of examples of Tres going the extra mile.

So, whatever happened to the matrix idea? Or did you decide there were just too many darn variables?

Too many variables, but also after some discussion with moderators I think not really appropriate for this board.
We probably don't need another scubaboard defender campaign......

When someone dives with same dive shop all the time their frame of reference is quite limited. That includes my wife and I.

We have a little over 500 dives with Blue~XT~Sea and we've never had a thought about checking out anyone else.

Wasn't so long ago that I posted the above. Since then we've extended our experience. We've dived with both TresPelicanos and Aldora. We settled on Aldora who is our new number one!

80-85 minute dives are pretty cool too.
