We're going to Cozumel in June and want to do some night-time snorkeling and take pics. I've never snorkeled at night and wonder where would be a good (and safe) place to try it out. Any suggestions?

Safe from what?

I'd be nervous of the current on the north end of the island. Other than that I have no idea what to expect.

Depends where your staying I guess....plan entry and exit and you should be fine...I'd bring two flashlights and a floatations vest to be on the safe side...leave a dive plan with someone on shore too. I assume by the boat pier in town would be the safest bet?

Thanks for the tip(s). We're staying at Sunscape Sabor on the southern end. Other than at the resort, do you have suggestions where to go?

I'm sorry I do not....being above the water at night scares the bee Jesus out of me:)

I'd suggest reposting your question in the Cozumel regional forum. There are some very knowledgable people there who can better answer your question. The same information would be relevant to shore divers.

There are hazards with current and boat traffic. I'd be extra cautious.

Here's a few spots I've enjoyed at night:

Good snorkeling in the evening off sun dollar, big stuff comes in to feed, Alberto's restaurant often has eagle rays at dusk, hotel barracuta has plenty of octopus and squid, the cenote outflow by the lighthouse in town has plenty of little stuff at dusk.

Depends how many night's you have and your skill in the water.... perhaps a generous tip to one of the dive shop workers would have a guide for you if you are hesitant on your own to handle the risks.

Regards,
Cameron
