Hello friends:

In September we plan to dive at Komodo resort for a few days and then fly to Maumere to catch the boat for Dan’s ring of fire trip.

Maumere and Labuan Bajo are at either end of the island of Flores.

By far the cheapest and fastest way to get there is to fly on wings air, a direct flight of 55 minutes.

Has anyone taken this flight, or flown on wings air? Is it something you recommend? The alternatives are far longer.

Thanks,

Bill

I flew two times with Wigs Air ( Kupang-Alor and Ambon-Kaimana ) : all OK !
( just I remember there was no space in cabin for "big" trolley and I had to pay the drink water on board ... )

Yep even too often to fly the less touristy places of the archipelago, like Tual/Langgur, Maumere, Alor or Bima.
Doesn't allow much luggage, you'll be allowed 10k the rest as bagage surcharge.
In Bali they put it on the level of a principle to change the gate without informing, won't be much of a problem in the small LBJ airport though.
Usually the ATR72 are safe and sturdy planes.
Cutest stewardess uniform anywhere! You'd expect the short red skirt on black stockings in a bar more than on a flight.

Otherwise driving through Flores is a very nice trip too, very scenic island, one of the most spectacular in Indonesia where there is more than diving, though it'll take you 3-4 days

They recently changed their luggage allowances. All prepaid now, pricing depends on the route but I paid about 600,000 for 30kg on the flight from Ternate to Manado a few weeks ago on Wings.
30KG is the most you can prebook. I know some legs are cheaper but it can be anywhere from about 11,000/kg to 28,000/kg

Had recent Lion Manado to Surabaya which was 110,000 for 10kg and then transfered Surabaya to Bali and had to pay 280,000 for that same 10kg! Who knows how that works hahaha

I flew wings to Maumere about 6 months ago - no problems or complaints at all. Just looked at my email - For some weird reason there's also a return on Nam airlines which I didn't take because my LOB left from Maumere.

Maybe Nam air Bill :) ??

It’s tempting to consider going over land across Florez, but I tend to think it’s not the best idea for someone with a bad back. I guess I will opt for the short red skirts and black stockings instead.

If it's just for that , for a few more 100kIDR notes you may also ask your Flores driver to wear short red skirts and black stockings, providing you don't mind for his moustache.

I'm doing that exact flight, but in reverse. I'm flying Maumere (MOF) to Labauan Bajo (LBJ) after I get off from Banda. I bought extra baggage outside of the included 10kg as prepaid excess. It cost more than the airfare (which was $21 USD lol). The baggage was $46 USD. and I bought 30kg's worth.

You'll be flying it before me so let us know how it goes. :)

We flew with Wings as part of our trip to Kupang and they were done. OK we have been on cleaner planes but they were totally fine , each one about 15 minutes late leaving , but they made up most of the time. They are better than LionAir but not as good as Garuda.

Sounds like a fun trip , have you been to Komodo Resort before Bill ?
