I have a new i770R. I am trying to update the firmware by connecting it to my Win10 PC via USB. The i770R is not being recognized by the PC and does not show up as a connected device.

When I connect it via USB, the i770R shows that it is charging, but the PC does not show that any new devices have been connected. I have tried this on 2 different PCs and it does not show up on either. I have also tested my USB connection by plugging in a camera which the PC does recognize.

Am I missing something or is something wrong with my dive computer or USB cord?

Thanks for any help!

Yes, I've installed DiverLog Lite on my PC. I tried to check for firmware with DiverLog, but when I try to add a dive computer, it says to 'Select your device from the list then click Connect to continue'. My i770R never shows up on the list. It says' Invalid product or handshake failed.'

I occasionally have trouble with handshakes on Pelagic computers. Follow the on screen directions to the letter regarding when to connect, when to turn it on, etc. That usually resolves it. The sequencing seems to be more important than you would think.

Okay, that is what I was doing wrong! I had the DC plugged into the USB from the start, not realizing that you had to connect it exactly when it says. That is pretty finicky, but I'm glad that I have it connected now. Thank you so much for your help!

Universal advice:
When all else fails,
  1. Read instructions
  2. Follow instructions
:D

Now I have a new problem: I've got the i770R connected and have started the firmware update. 9 minutes into the process, the DC screen went blank and I got an error message 'Could not communicate with the dive computer'. The battery was full, so it didn't run out of power. Now the DC won't turn on. Did I just kill this thing?
