The reason why they don't want line is that people follow them into places where they shouldn't be. If you leave the line, it will probably be removed within a week by a very annoyed DM.

I can't be responsible for the stupid mistakes of other divers. Maybe my plan would save the life of a diver who would have gone down that corridor with no guideline whatsover.

If a DM wants to "get all annoyed" that's their issue. It's also part of their job. Sort of like when people leave shopping carts in the middle of the parking lot and they have to be retrieved by the guy who works outside.

First of all, I will simply echo all the "Don't do it!" posts and then add a couple more comments.

There was a ScubaBoard thread a couple years ago about a couple OW certified divers whose wonderful personal experience was deemed sufficient by the dive operator who otherwise forbid penetration of the Spiegel Grove for the customers. One of them did not make it out, probably because he overestimated his skills at running a line. It turns out that it is easy to screw up that process, as any certified cave diver will tell you.

There was a ScubaBoard thread a few years before that about a group of divers who penetrated and then got confused as to where they were in the wreck. One of them thought they needed to go in one direction to go out, and the others disagreed with them. They parted company. The single diver is the one who made it out.

Leaving line in a wreck is wrong for the reason Manatee Diver made, but also because it creates an entanglement hazard for future divers. Line left in wrecks really pisses off serious wreck divers. It is an unusual wreck that has a permanent navigational line, and when that happens, it is done by a professional who knows what he or she is doing.

I could make a list of the things wrong with your plan and tell you why they are wrong, but I am afraid you will take that as instructions and go ahead with an amended plan. Please take the appropriate classes to prepare yourself before attempting something lie this.

(Assuming you aren't a really good troll) You're lucky others don't have the same attitude.

Hopefully the shopping carts left in the parking lot by totally irresponsible and selfish customers will be retrieved before a gust of wind blows them into another car and damages it.

So, if I understand this post, you are putting yourself and your dive plan in the same category as the totally irresponsible and selfish shoppers who leave their carts in the parking lot as a hazard to others and as extra work for employees. Interesting.

Do you always return your shopping cart to the rack, John?

I'm at work and the only dive gear I happen to have around is my dive computer from the last time I uploaded my dives.
