simple solution, don't buy a package and just get individual gear of the best type

packages are almost never a good idea because they commonly include mediocre pieces that you will end up replacing (outside of build your own package deals where you just get a small percentage discount for buying multiple items at once)

He can always sell the Scubapro on Ebay (it is new and boxed) for 450 bucks, and buy the Peregrine...
Ok, no saving, but a much better computer!

Sell it for $450? No chance. Insufficient discount - remember that SP demands an original receipt from the original purchaser for warranty service. May also be part of the SP PFL program.

Sell it on Amazon. They are always asking me if I want to sell the stuff I have.
As far as I know you just ship it to them and they list it under other sellers and mark it as "Sold as New". Once it's sold you get a credit.

I’ve sold on Fleabay and Amazon. Equally awful experiences. I would sell here on SB. No fees and much easier to do it.

Yes but Amazon will give the new owner a receipt from them as a new item.
I would think the company would honor that under warranty.

I did sometimes buy new items on Ebay. The original purchaser must include the fiscal receipt with item, and I did always get it.
For example the iPad which I am using now was new in its sealed packet. Purchased one week before by a guy who profited of a special-day offer with 22% discount.
Sold on Ebay with just 10% discount.
I saved 10%, the original purchaser did get the remaining 12%, minus Ebay's fees.
As I have the fiscal receipt I get the 2-years warranty. Of course minus one week, as Apple would recognize the date on the receipt as the date of purchase.

I’d be surprised if they would honor the warranty. Most I’ve seen have a clause that warranty is to original purchaser from an authorized dealer. I don’t think Amazon would qualify as authorized dealer.

OP,
Look around online to see what used ones are going for. Take whichever one appears to go for more. Then, use it, or try to sell it and get a Peregrine. Much better computer, and much easier to see. But, if you end up keeping the one you choose, that will work for you as well.

Hi everyone, thanks for the ridiculously quick replies, I was not expecting so many comments.

Seems like the general consensus is to get a better watch than the A1/D4i Novo. I like the look of the Peregrine and seems like it could be a better investment long term, so I might see if the dive shop has that as an optional upgrade. Otherwise I’ll probably stick to the A1 for now, and source another computer later on when I gain more experience.

As for why I got the package deal? I did my research and know that package deals are usually a rip off, but I changed pretty much everything in the package (the store allowed that). Had to pay a little more, but at least I got what I wanted rather than sticking with what’s included.

I’m also located in Australia so some of the prices commented don’t really apply.

Appreciate everyone’s responses and I look forward to contributing back in someway in the future!

edit: the dive shop doesn’t stock any Shearwater products

Just a thought ...

Maybe the shop would be willing to swap the computer for some other category of item(s) that might be useful to you. Maybe some tanks?

Then go buy the computer you want.

interesting thought, that could be an option.

currently though, I don’t think I have anything I’d like to have, I don’t want to purchase tanks because I do not have the space for it.

I can’t think of anything that I require which I don’t already own.

apparently the Scubapro A1 is really popular in Australia (Scubapro sold out of it 3 times in the last few months), so I doubt I’ll have any issues selling it.

shame Shearwater doesn’t have a large presence in Australia so I’m concerned how the warranty will work should anything happen
