must that dive center boat that blares music.

Quite possibly the dive op that took over from Scuba 2000 - Extreme Water Sports - who have the black boat (Black Pearl) and a really skinny yellow boat that is very narrow almost canoe like.

Oh wow - just read the last few pages of this thread and Searcaigh, Corrupted diver you have such nice photos!

Was looking into Dubai diving because we might shift a meeting to Dubai probably in May so I thought I might try to get some diving in the weekends before and after (3 days each so 12 dives maybe plus 1-2 night dives).
Can you recommend me the top sites to try to get to? Is it easy to get onto a boat kind of last minute (reservation 1 weeks before maximum I guess)? I thought maybe 3 days directly from Dubai and three from Fujairah. Or what would you recommend had you only 6 days?

Well thank you very much, bubble99.
Searcaigh certainly has nicely framed photographs!

I would highly reccomend Divers Down based at Miramar Resort.
Its a five star resort with adult and kid pools, many dining venues. Pretty good breakfast and lunch buffets.
Divers Down is a very professional setup as well.

Divers Down is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Dubai.
You can message them and they generally have weekday dive slots available.
If you intend for weekend dives, I can help with contacting them - at no cost to you obviously.

I would honestly not dive in Dubai if I have the opportunity to dive from the UAE's east coast (where Divers Down and many other reputable dive centers are located).

Feel free to message me privately.

hi @Bubble99 thanks for the complements.

As @Corrupted_Diver mentioned there is no decent diving off Dubai and your best option is off the east coast.

Divers Down is a professional set up although I haven't dived with them for some time primarily it's a logistics issue as I carry a lot of kit on the boat and you have to swim out to their boats to load up. Normally I carry two camera housings, stages and other gear.

I normally use Barracuda out of Fujairah International Marina, but they rarely do midweek dives unless you're paying for the full boat rental.

There are other options such as Sandy Beach where you can do shore dives but the hotel is grossly overpriced.

If you want more details just send a PM

Cheers.

Thanks for the fast and replies!
I do prefer clubs that carry the tanks on the boat as I am not very strong and have a fragile back and won't be taking my sons with me either (poor guys have A-level exams in June). Do you have to take out your tanks with divers down as well or only your own small stuff?
The meeting will probably be a Tuesday to Thursday - is the weekend so regular diving on Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday in Dubai? What a shame the diving in Dubai itself is not so interesting - was surprised to see so many centers on google and very hopeful. How does one get to the East coast? I guess once a hotel is chosen they will arrange transport? Or is there a cheaper option?

I have done a fair amount of diving in Dubai. It was all wreck diving, interesting but low visibility without the extensive marine life you'll find diving the East coast. I think that it is worth diving it as long as you enjoy wrecks and you are prepared for the low vis. Some of the wrecks are deeper wrecks, closer to 30 meters.
