Riviera Maya, Mexico

"The most popular and beautiful cenote in the Yucatan."

Located about 30 minutes South of Playa del Carmen, on the right hand side of Highway 307. The entrance fee at present is $100 pesos per person. The location has two cenotes laying side-by-side. They are connected, as many cenotes are, by one of many small cave passages. The water is crystal clear and is best dived between 9 and 11 during "high-sun" months (from about April until September). During this time the sun hits the large cavern opening of Cenote Kukulkan - creating breathtaking sunlight rays, refracting deep into the cavern - the closest thing to heaven you can imagine. In the summer time the surface water temperature rises and algae bloom causes the water of Cenote Chac Mool to be tinted green. From inside the cavern looking out towards the light, the bright green hue is just one of the features of this cenote that leaves lasting impressions.

This location is ideal for snorkeling too. Be aware that it is very popular and hence, can be very crowded. The land owners make a big effort to improve the location amenities and have recently built a little food & beverage vending hut.

If you´re going to do some diving in this area of Mexico - this is a perfect intro into cavern diving.
