Thanks fdog, and everyone who responded.
Now I know that I can leave the LCD on for most of an average dive if I need to.
I always carry extra batteries. And like jcclink, I will only buy chargers that are 100-240 volts.
I live in the US, but much of my diving is in Southeast Asia. I even have a mini SPG that is calibrated in both psi and BARs.
Now I have to decide between the Hero 2 and the Bonica 1080. They each have their strengths and weaknesses but both of them are higher def and much smaller than what I have been carrying.

Camera without LCD back: ~105 minutes continuous shooting, approx 10% less in cold water
Camera with LCD back (LCD on): continuous shooting, ~45 minutes
Camera with LCD back (LCD off): continuous shooting, ~105 minutes
