Those would be Navy Seals. Marine Corp special forces are called Force Recon.

MARSOC is actually Marine Corps special forces. Force Recon is basically platoons of elite rifleman, like scout snipers and such. Force Recon was our special forces until the Pentagon wanted a legitimate special operations unit from the Marine Corps.

MARSOC is just a new name for the same thing. It was made up from the 1st & 2nd Force Recon units with other support units added to help facilitate their operations.

They tested the idea with Marines from force recon (detatchment 1). After they decided it worked, detachment 1 was disbanded. I'm sure they kept a few from recon, but it wasn't until 2 years later they actually started training marines under MARSOC. I guess what I'm getting at is, they're not the same. Force Recon have Marines that specialize in their particular MOS in addition to other training, and MARSOC Marines go through 18 months worth of training in all types of combat scenarios, SERE training, foreign language, all kinds of training.
