As a West Australian diver id appreciate it if anyone would like to help sign the petition to get this decision which was snuck through at a federal level without the consultation of the W.A public (esp the diving public) as a knee jerk reaction to a surfers death. Here is the petition please add your name - we need international pressure to get the message through to the government.
The government are saying any shark over 3m may be killed to make sure tourism to W.A does not suffer because of perceived threats of shark attacks...

We are lucky to have big sharks, please help stop them taking breeding stock.

Thanks :)

Shark strategy: baited drum lines and killing zones near popular beaches after fatal attacks - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Kiling sharks to make beaches a little safer..
This is the most ridiculous measure I've read in years.
if it was already posted here I'm sorry.

Totally unbelievable!!! Culling the sharks is not a solution. The "strategy" of using baited drum lines, IMHO, is the most ridiculous idea .. why would they want to lure the sharks nearer to shore and kill them. Isn't it a crime to delibeartely kill the Great White, a protected species?? And also culling the larger sharks, >3m will decimated the shark species and cause an increase in pinnipeds. By then, will there be another order to cull the seals??

Pls help to sign and share these petitions:

Of course I signed it immediately and shared on the FB site of our dive club, so I hope some more people will sign it.

Signed

As an Australian I am absolutely embarrassed by the actions of the WA government. The shark attack mitigation policy is short sighted and definitely NOT scientifically backed. It sounds like something from the 1950's or a poor rehash of JAWS.
Please feel free to contact the WA government on this address to voice your concerns. wa-government@dpc.wa.gov.au

Let's continue to fight for the sharks .. pls share the petition (in any major forum/page that you belongto) and ask everyone who care for the sharks to sign and join in the fight. Thank you!!!

A lot of people do care, including Australians. Yeah!!!!!
