What gear do you want to use? The manufactures that claim you have to have a B&M only say that within ear shot of everyone.
I know a couple instructors that have a rental from a major manufacture that sold direct.
Another option is find who "brand x's" large retailer is a strike a deal with them.
You can have any line you want, just have to find a player.
