Hey all,

Quick question. Headed to Yap and Chuuk from Toronto via LAX to Honolulu to Guam. Short connection in guam ~90min.

Coming from Honolulu, as Guam is a territory of the US, do you go through customs/immigration? Can't seem to find a solid answer anywhere. Might be a dumb questions, but never hurts to ask.

Thanks!

Guam is an unincorporated territory of the US, a duty free port, and outside the US customs zone. You have to go through customs. It is, however, in the USA, so no immigration screening for US citizens.

Yes you will go through Customs/Immigration (including US Citizens), although it should be just a quick check and scan of your passport, plane ticket itinerary and stamping of your boarding pass as a transiting passenger originating from Canada. And as always -get ready to take off your shoes- you have to go through TSA screening yet again.

Not a big hassle since that incoming United Flight from Honolulu comes into Guam in the evening around 7pm, so the lines at Customs/Immigration and TSA aren't too long. The problem that arises however is if that Honolulu Flight arrives late for whatever reason, then your Yap or Chuuk connection will be tight, with the potential of leaving without you (United gate & baggage personnel can hold departure of these flights for as late as 30min if they know you are in line at TSA screening).
