We had a baby one (3m) around our local islands recently, and another one went up and down the deep water channel up past Khlong Muang too. That one could be seen from the beaches there.:D

Got to be west coast! Good weather, great diving! You can do 2/3 dives a day from dayboats out of Ao Nang that take in those sites suggested by Quero; Phi Phi and Shark Point. If you want shorter boat trips, then local islands out of Ao Nang have lots to offer. Then why not transfer over to Khao...

Many benefits for low season diving on the west coast. Mainly the lower hotel prices. Diving wise, you may have to wait a few days to dive whilst some dive centres collect enough divers together to pack onto one boat. This is usually not the case with some of the operators with smaller boats...

If you go for a speedboat option, check out the Wind Guru website too. We usually find that the sea state once we get past Phi Phi, will mean the sea will be twice that hight once we get to HD/HM. It's the decision point on whether to carry on, run to Koh Haa instead, or worst case stay at Phi...

That sounds much closer to the mark than Racha Noi!!! There again there are probably plenty of speed boat operators offering the same day service from Phuket where the OP will be staying. That said, many of the operators out of Krabi will charter such a boat when there is enough demand.

My setup is a 2L 300 bar steel pony back mounted on my single main. The pony SPG is routed next to the pony second stage on opposite side to my main console. No mix up this way. Love it.

You will pay for it all one way or another. One shop here does free internships, but of course, you get no pay whilst you're "working" it off. If you pay, then you could go onto freelance earning whilst there is work. Plenty of work here now as we're into high season.
