If anyone finds a GoPro on Tormentos....

It's mine. Lost it on Weds after it got loose from the lanyard somehow. I know it's an outside chance but I thought I'd try. It really ain't about the camera, it's the memories.

Taxi v. Bus from Cancun to Playa

I did a search on this topic but couldn't come up with anything in the last five years so dated. There'll be four of us with gear. Cheaper/better to take a taxi? Do they have vans because I think a Corolla ain't gonna work!

Is there a place to workout in town?

I'm going to introduce my nephew and his girlfriend to the wonders of Cozumel scuba diving in October. He's a firefighter and needs to workout pretty often. Is there a gym near central San Miguel where he and his girlfriend can get a workout or two in while we're there? I plan on waiting at...

    Winter getting you down?

Tired of all this snow, sleet and ice? Need a break? Grab a Negra, Sol, Corona, Patron, whatever, kick off your shoes, feel the warm sand on your feet and take a minute in Cozumel to regain your perspective.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23YqUV26qEw

    Lens Bubbles

Any suggestions on how to prevent bubbles from forming on the dome lens and the filters that does not degrade clarity? I get them between the lens and the filter and it's driving my autofocus nuts because the camera gets locked onto the bubbles on the glass. Rain-X?

Keep an eye on this one

Well, it's August and the storms are coming. The NWS just listed this as "Five" right now but with a 60% chance of becoming "Ernesto" in the next few days. And, it's pointing right at Coz. As they say in the Navy...."Stand by....." AN ATLANTIC OCEAN TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 15N45W 13N47W... TO A...

    Kill 'em anyway

Not good news but this shouldn't deter anyone from control efforts wherever and whenever possible. St Maarten finds local lionfish tainted with toxin Thursday - 11/24/2011, 4:25pm ET FILE- In this July 2006 file image released by NOAA Undersea Research Center, a lionfish swims at a depth...

    Accurate Cozumel weather forecasts?

Planning to be there starting Saturday and have been checking the forecasts for weather. I know it's always a guess but The Weather Channel and AccuWeather seem to be way apart on their forecasts with Accuweather predicting much better temps. The Weather Channel has night temps going down to...

    Pumba's Puppy

Diving with Blue Magic a few weeks ago we had the chance to see something very cool....a DM with his own "groupie"! On our last dive of the trip Pumba took us to Balones and said "Watch this....As soon as I get in the water my puppy will come to see me." Sure enough, as we decended to the...

    Detoxification of Lionfish venom

I came across a video on YouTube by Dr. Niels Lindquist of UNC - Chapel Hill that shows how to take the sting out of the lionfish you capture. Dr. Lindquist chills the fish in seawater and ice with additional salt added to lower the ice slurry even farther below freezing, just like when making...

Wisdom software doesn't have any (wisdom)

I hope you're reading this, Mr. Rep, because I've pretty much had my fill of the software that you supply at substantial cost that doesn't work, works incorrectly and requires constant updating that only seems to introduce more new problems. Come on - PC software isn't new or a big mystery. If...

    The sling....

I was in Coz last week and had the chance to video a little lionfish control out in the park. The DM, David of Aldora Divers, did an outstanding job of killing and then rendering the carcasses of two of these predators safe for nature to dispose of. My views on the use of Hawaiian slings have...

    Trip Report May 2009

Yeah, I know - way late. Last May was my first trip to Coz and was a shakedown cruise for a new interest of mine, underwater video. Rather than rave on about the great diving (everywhere), the great dive op (Blue XT Sea), the great hotel (Villas Las Anclas), and the great restaurants...

Burning my first HD disc question

Someone here said that there is a learning to video editing - boy are they right! I just finished my first HD project and used Vegas Pro and now have to burn it to Blu-Ray. The manual says I have two choices - 15 Mbps AVC or 25 Mbps MPEG-2. Seems that 25 Mbps would produce better video...

    Summer versus winter currents

I recently heard that the winter currents in Cozumel are much stronger than in the summer. Having only experienced the latter I'd like to know if it's true. Planning a trip there in Dec and this could be a deal maker with my brother who insists that the winter currents could be a problem. I...

New to uw video and have a lot of HD footage from a recent trip to Coz. I want to edit it and have as close to the original quality as I see on the raw footage when I burn it to Blu-Ray. I have Adobe PE4 and am comfortable with it but will need to upgrade to PE7 for AVCHD. I also got Vegas Pro 8...
