    SeaLife DC1200 or Sea&Sea DX-2G

Hi, first of all thank you for the compliments. :-) The first pic is a stitched one. Photoshop helps a lot with these shots. I have the S&S 125 close up lens in use and did some experiments with a 10x diopter stacked. It is very hard since you only have a really small depth of field (in this...

    SeaLife DC1200 or Sea&Sea DX-2G

Hi plok, the big question is- what do you want. Do you want a camera which takes pictures where you are in control of the camera or do you want the camera to do the work. If I had to choose; I 'd definitely take the 2G. Yes- it is more expensive, but you will soon realise that you can grow...

Post your best tips for the 2G

This looks like it's the beginning of a good thread :-) I have own the 1G with a single YS110a, but I think the settings are pretty much the same. I used to shoot in automatic but switched over to manual since due to the slow shutter speeds at low ambient light conditions. Like Bill, I also...

    Regarding Close-up lens 125 for Dx-1G/2G

I talked to the guy again at the convention and told him I don't believe what he is saying due to the fact that first of all Sea&Sea claims that stacking of lenses is possible without problems and secondly that I have seen pictures done with stacked lenses (S&S and other manufacturers) and they...

    Regarding Close-up lens 125 for Dx-1G/2G

I don't trust salespeople and the manufacturers anymore anyway after the thing with the YS110 TTL compatibility... First they tell you one thing is excellent and then a week later it's not true. The thing was that the salespeople are saying you shouldn't do it but then I read about people doing...

    Regarding Close-up lens 125 for Dx-1G/2G

Hello everyone, Maybe somebody can help me on this; I am getting weird information regarding the stacking of the 125 close-up lenses for the 1G/2G. There is a big convention going on in Düsseldorf (Boot 2010) and sales people are telling me that you cannot stack the 125 lens on top of...

Tip manual strobe usage (in particular for the DX-1G) - really easy!!

Hi "New Horizons", if you want to take macro shots you can stick to the top mount but it is better to have strobe arm so you can reduce backscatter. It took me a long time to switch from full automatic mode to manual settings on the camera, same thing for the strobe. Get used to the camera...

    Hydras attacking dragonfly larvae

I was crazy enough to go diving last night and try out some macro shots... Two things I learned: 1. taking pictures in a drysuit at night is really hard 2. 50 minutes in cold water with 5mm gloves is way too long! Anyways: this little dragonfly larvae (guess thats what it was) was on a...

    Blue pictures with DX-1G

Hi Trange, yes we go to most of the lakes east of the Rhine river since you can't go diving in Rheinland Pfalz. We like going to the Brechtsee as well as some lakes around Karlsruhe. Do you do any diving around K-town? Guess not...

Tip manual strobe usage (in particular for the DX-1G) - really easy!!

I think we should also think about the animals we are shooting. Does it have to be 10 shots or more with a flash on a poor little pygmy seahorse? It should work out after 3 shots. Those poor little creatures have enough stress when they see us divers coming along...

Tip manual strobe usage (in particular for the DX-1G) - really easy!!

After being frustrated with the so-called TTL-feature of the DX-1G and YS110alpha I started searching the web for help. I stumbled upon the cool website of the Jim Church School of Underwater Photography and its numerous podcasts hosted by Mike Haber and Doug Mesgleski Podcast Welcome Page...

    Blue pictures with DX-1G

Thank you for the compliments Bill :-) First of all: the settings are for the DX-1G, YS110a, ISO 100 and the flash set on full power with manual 1. 1ft - 8,1 1,5ft - 7,2 2ft - 6,5 3ft - 5,7 4ft - 5,1 With macro I think I reduced the flash down to minimum or the first step from the left...

    Blue pictures with DX-1G

Hi Bill, sorry for not answering quicker...I didn't take a peak into the forum yesterday... It works good for both macro and wide-angle. If you want my settings, I can post them here. But anyways have a look for yourself: If you want more examples; I have cold water exmaples too. It...

    Blue pictures with DX-1G

use RAW (if you want nice and blue images) and get closer to your subject... The only negative aspect using RAW is that you have to wait 5 seconds until you can shoot the next picture. Otherwise I'd stick to JPEG. Don't use the TTL Setting on the flash- it just doesn't work correctly (imho)...

    DX-2G hints and tips

I changed the sharpness to "hard" which works better for me. Otherwise, as hammerhead man said, I can recommend the wide angle and the closeup lens. Although the RAW function is very slow- I like using it for wide angle shots without using the flash. Have fun using the camera :-) And...

    YS-110 strobes use

Hi Bill, sorry, I forgot to write that if you have the flash set to TTL you have to turn the knob to "FULL" otherwise it tends to overexposes. And yes- I meant the adaptor to put over the flash. :cool2:

    YS-110 strobes use

Hi Bill, I don't use the TTl-mode since it just doesn't seem to work with the dx-1g. I went over to using manual mode on the flash (nr.2). Otherwise you should get yourself the adapter for the fiber optic cable (you can order it for free from you sea&sea retailer) and you should have the flash...

    2g and Manual Mode

@Sea&SEA: just to confirm: it is the same issue as with the dx-1g, that when taking pictures underwater in M mode the screen goes very dark??

    Theme 01 - 15 September, 2009: Sunrays

It sure would be nice to see some meta data of some of these pics and tips on how they were taken- they're great! I'm going on vacation in two weeks and sure would like to bring in some light rays into my pics. The sunballs do look good as well ! Regards, Paula
