    Whale sharks 2015

Ralph, did you do the live aboard option this season and if so how did it work out?

    Rocio Del Mar?

I have only heard some indirect assessments of the boat and dive operation and all have been positive. Good luck on your trip!

    Rocio Del Mar?

This liveaboard looks interesting, but I am curious about a couple of issues from anyone who has first hand experience with the boat. 1) If you took the van from Phoenix to the boat, were there any border crossing or other issues? 2) Visibility and current at the dive sites? 3) In...

NOAA Buoy for Tortola/BVI Water Temp?

I have been looking at NOAA Station CHAV3 ( NDBC - Station CHAV3 ) for current water temp information for Tortola and environs. Is there another station or buoy I should also check for water temps around the BVI?

Freedom Plate or Dive Rite Plate?

I'm looking to buy that exact set up very soon. That really looks like a great warm water rig, which is what I want it for. Where would you place the zip ties? How much weight did you use on your previous Zeagle BCD? I'm just trying to get an idea of what my weighting would be after switching...

Freedom Plate or Dive Rite Plate?

I used a Freedom Plate and 18# Oxycheq wing on a recent trip to Cozumel. Prior to this I have been diving a Zeagle back inflate BC or back in the day a plastic plate and harness. I began looking for a rig that was streamlined and comfortable. After some searching, I bought a plate from Eric...

    Dealing with Downcurrents

Given that vertical currents can occur almost anywhere, are there some southern dive sites that are more likely to have these types of currents? Santa Rosa wall gets mentioned in some reports as does Punta Tunich. Are there others where divers should be especially aware? thanks JR

Gift Regulator For Aspiring Marine Biologist

Ah yes, the "howevers," but then that is why I asked the question for the "howevers"! The HOG is an interesting choice and I will look into it ... she is going to school in Florida so a training course at Dolphin is more or less out of the question, but I would guess there are also places in...

Gift Regulator For Aspiring Marine Biologist

I have a niece who is off to graduate school in marine biology. She is interested in coral reefs and coastal fisheries biology. She needs a regulator set for graduate school and beyond and I would like to gift her a set. My default is a Scubapro Mk17/G250v for several reasons: (1) it is a...

    Freedom backplate and wings

Hello Eric, In the quote below where you describe placement of the keeper, do you mean that it is best placed on what I would term the "body side" of the plate, that is the side with the number of the plate and USA? Or is it best placed on "seaside" of the plate where the wing is? Thanks JR

Relative Size of Veo and Geo Computers

Thanks ... my wife and I prefer to dive the same computer and she opted for the Pro Plus 2 rather than the Geo or Veo models --- so no problems with being able to see the display.

Thanks for the replies ... I will probably get the Duo and use it with my existing computer. Maybe I will even add and SPG :yelclap:

    Computer Upgrade Choices

I have a 1995 vintage Oceanic Data Max Pro computer that works fine, but I am adding Nitrox capability to my diving and I am looking for a computer with that capability. The Nitek Duo computer seems like a good choice and can be found at less than 300. The oceanic Veo 2.0 and 3.0 also look as...

Relative Size of Veo and Geo Computers

I have aging eyes, but I would like a wrist computer. The new Veo 2.0/3.0 or the Geo 2.0 look attractive, but I cannot get any information about the relative face&number size of these computers. Is there any information available or any images that would show the relative sizes of these...

Buying Wetsuits can be a pain....

My wife recently bought a Henderson suit from LP and it was 220 or so. I had a custom suit made by Aquaflite (Welcome to AquaFlite Custom Wetsuits, Skins, and parkas) for 210 or so. I cannot come up with a reason to buy an off the shelf suit when a well made custom suit is about the same price.

The Airport in Cozumel - arrival insanity

I agree with Mfinley ... it is relatively painless to say "no gracias" or "no thanks." While it may be a bit confusing when first getting out of customs and wondering where to go and how to get to the hotel, these folks have their job and I found they in general they were respectful and...
