    Issue with Tektite light

I just bought a Tektite 400 LS LED light and tried to use it this past weekend. I put in the batteries that they provided with the light, turned it on and it worked. I switched it off, popped it in my BC pocket and off I went. When I got to depth (about 100ft) I pulled it out to use...

    best dive resorts on Curacao

My Hubby and I are returning to Breezes Curacao this winter. It's my 4th time there and his 3rd time. Ocean Encounters dive op is located right at the hotel with lockers for your gears so you don't need to lug it around. There is shore diving right there, the dive op which offers boat trips...

Where in Cuba? North side? South side?

So hubby has decided he wants to go to Cuba in December (my choices were Tobago or Utila). We know of one diver friend who has been there several times and he goes to the north side in April/May. I've done a bit of research (and a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!) and that has me...

Neoprene vs. Latex dry suit seals

I had neoprene seals on my drysuit and switched them out for latex as they were always leaking. I had no leaking issues with the latex. I do have a small neck and wrists. Neoprene is likely warmer but not if you're getting wet!! I would say it depends on the person using them. If your tendons...

Two questions about diving in Cuba

You can get emergency travel medical insurance from a number of providers other than DAN that cover chamber rides. Squbaholidays uses RBCInsurance. My coverage is with Desjardins. I believe TD Insurance and BMOInsurance cover it too. Just be sure that scuba is not excluded. (The policies that...

What's the nicest compliment you've ever received?

Okay this post hasn't had comments for a few months but I thought I'd throw in my "best compliment" anyway. I was working with a partner I had worked with off and on for several years. He had applied for another job and was interested in me seeing the manual he had to study to pass the test...

    Cold, Sore, Exhausted

I wear a 5mil suit and hood diving in the Caribbean where it's 80 degree water! Go dry. It's really the only way. I used to get leg cramps all the time. Dehydration. So, before I dive I down a small bottle of Gatorade and drink plenty of water between and after the dives. Your fins...

    Breezes Curacao

I've been there 3 times. Twice we used Ocean Encounters. They're great. There are some lockers at the diveshop right at the hotel for your gear if you want to leave it there. Saves having to lug it back and forth. My first time there we were booked for boat dives all week but the wind was up...

    Car theft in Curacao

I was in Bonaire Nov '08 with 3 others. We rented a small pickup and was advised not to lock it. We didn't. No issues. I was in Curacao Feb '09 with hubby and rented a car. The doors automatically locked and the alarm set and we couldn't override which was a bit of a peeve but we had no...

    Tobago, diving, crime

Thanks for the info. As to Bonaire, I was there in Nov '08 and had no issues at all. The other couple we were with has been there at least one other occasion and speak highly of the island. DL

    Tobago, diving, crime

I know we have a few Tobago residents and/or avid visitors on the board here so if you could please provide some insight... I hear the crime rate in Tobago has gone up in recent years and that tourists are specifically targeted. Most of the articles I've read lump Trinidad and Tobago together...

    Well......it happened again! :(

And to further that, accidents aren't referred to as "accidents" anymore (at least in Ontario). They're now called "collisions" since the word "accident" implies a lack of fault and there is always someone deemed to be "at fault". Diverlady

US Coast Guard ran over my dive flag last month. Good grief! Apparently there was a diver killed this past weekend too as noted in another thread. diving fatality Diverlady

    Barge crash in St Lawrence

Kudos to you, Warren, for keeping your cool and not stooping to the bottom-dwelling levels of other members here despite being called "chief science officer" and being labelled as a pot and crack user. I hope you will continue to post here despite the hostility you endured in this thread...

Who's diving where this Canada Day Weekend?

I've driven 3hrs (each way) to go diving before. Most of the time I tend to camp for the weekend especially when going places like Tobermory but also Brockville and Kingston. Plus I get to dive both days of the weekend then. Diverlady
