Hand signals for remaining no-decompression Time

As others have said, the little finger raised, or just tapping the computer, or going over and physically looking if they still haven't understood (although hopefully we would have discussed this during dive plan). If you're diving nitrox purely for added conservatism rather than using...

    Divemaster, where to go?

I did my training with Master Divers. There's an article on their blog about choosing a centre for your DM....... Which dive centre to choose for your Dive Master Course. « Courses « Diving On Koh Tao « Master Divers Personally, I chose them because I'd previously had a good experience diving...

OW padi pool sessions as a shore dive

It should be no problem for any dive op to split up the course for you, with the referral system. The first instructor signs you off for the parts you have completed on a referral form, and the second instructor can then pick up where they left off. The referral is valid for up to 12 months...

    Divemaster, where to go?

January onwards is a good time to be on Koh Tao; I did my divemaster course here between January and May this year and am still here, having a great time. I got loads of excellent experience during my course, way more than the minimum required (logged >100 dives during the course), felt I got a...

How many people have had to use their knife/cutting tool while diving

I was clearing fishing line, my (insta-) buddy decided to try and help me and succeeded in getting hooks caught in his BC and wrapping himself up in the line, essentially tying himself onto the rocks. He'd been such a PIA all day that I did briefly consider letting him sort himself...

    BCD Setup

No pic but my octopus hose runs under my right arm and straight into a little pocket on the right shoulder strap of my BC, so the reg sits just below the pocket on the right side of my chest, and the hose is nice and streamlined. My SPG runs around on the left and is tucked behind my waist clip...

    Red Hat Maximus wing system

I've just started my journey into tech diving and am starting to look at gear for my own set-up. Has anyone come across this brand before? It's British and seems fairly new, I found them on ebay, but seems to be broadly like the OMS one that I used in my tec40 course. The review linked on the...

Why do I need a Nitrox certification?

Remember also that courses are aimed at the lowest common denominator.....great if you are intelligent enough to read complex information, digest and fully understand it yourself and implement it safely.....other people may learn much more efficiently with a dynamic, instructor-led approach.

Divemaster - Time to complete and commitment

Your profile says you live in London.....have you considered the option of undertaking DM (or equivalent) training in the UK? Either through one of the London-based scuba shops, during evenings and weekends or going a totally different route via your local BSAC club?

New (about to be) DM...keeping EFR in status?

Which is why I've just done my EFRI now so everything is in order :-)

Poll: Where were you (first) introduced to the frog kick (mastery not required)?

In my OW class we were only taught flutter kick, and not a lot about trim, to be honest, other than keeping arms still. I was introduced to frog kick and some other kicking styles on the PPB dive of my AOW, but didn't really use them for a long time, I tended to butterfly kick most of the time...

New (about to be) DM...keeping EFR in status?

Himm seem to have lost my reply! So it seems that as far as PADI are concerned, EFR only has to be in date at certification and at renewal. Your EFR also has to be in date to do the EFRI course. As far as my own situation goes, we've just realised that you do NOT have to already be a certified...

New (about to be) DM...keeping EFR in status?

Hullo wise people of scubaboard.... I'm about to qualify as a divemaster (PADI), and my EFR is within 24 months.... just!! So, when we sign the divemaster forms, it will be within 24 months. No problem. My question is, do I need to have it renewed as soon as it 'runs out', or before I renew my...

Which PADI specialties are useful and which ones are "underwater basket weaving"?

Oh ok!!! Seeing as I probably will be in Thailand when I become eligible, I will consider taking the opportunity to screw PADI just that little bit :-)

Travel Reg: Apeks Flight vs. Aqualung Micron

I have had my flight for a little over a year and it's done around 45 dives on 3 dive trips. I went to get it serviced before my next trip, and the technician didn't have the right unique tools for the flight and needs to order them specifically from apeks, which will take extra time. It has...

ATTENTION SCUBA LADIES! Womens only dive charter help/advice!

I have filled in the survey. I'm interested to know what limitations you feel women have when diving that men don't?

Which PADI specialties are useful and which ones are "underwater basket weaving"?

I agree with this. I have no desire/motivation for the PADI MSD rating, although I am most of the way there with Rescue and 3 specs already under my belt and I do wish/plan to complete other specialities for various reasons, but I'm not sure I'll bother getting an MSD card once I am eligible...

    Ditching the depth gauge

Don't think I mentioned anything about pleasing PADI being my highest priority, that's some scathing presumptive sarcasm there, thanks for the input(!). Aside from that thanks for the reassurance scubaboard! It's definitely my personal preferred option right now and if it'll be an acceptable...

    Ditching the depth gauge

would there be any PADI protocol issues with not having a depth gauge on a DM course?

    Ditching the depth gauge

On my most recent dive trip I noticed that my depth gauge no longer worked - it just doesn't register anything. As I use a computer it was not an inconvenience at all. It's in a double instrument console with my pressure gauge. I'm thinking of replacing it with just a single small pressure...
