As far as FL goes, I did my solo cert a few months ago with Dayo Scuba. No complaints. Honestly, if you've been diving a while, which I believe 100 dives are required, it's mostly common sense and you wont find it that difficult.
Has DEMA left a bad taste in all of its members' mouths, or just the ones talking on this thread? From what I've read here, the politics and controversy with the organization sounds worse than a Wisconsin recall election. To the folks I have been talking to here, are any of you still paying...
Not necessarily. As you said, we're 10 months out. Had their been no controversy about it, I'm sure I would have heard about it at some point before April 2013 either through Scubaradio or some other chatter on the airwaves. I don't know if DEMA would do a beter job or not at running a show than...
Chris, thank you for your responses. As far as who I am, my name is Evan Hoffman and the only dog that I have in this fight is that spend a good deal of money each year on scuba diving as my hobby. I have been diving since 2000, my highest certification is PADI Rescue Diver and I have several...
Jim, I appreciate and respect your opinion. However, with all due respect, the concept of driving around for a weekend going from dive shop to dive shop (each which carries very little inventory as you said) is very unappealing. I would much rather drive to Ft. Lauderdale (a great town to spend...
It would seem to me that by opening up the show to vendors in other outdoor water related activities, more people would attend the show and DEMA may possibly be working to attract more people to the sport! In this supposed "money grab", would none of the funds raised by selling booths be used to...
How exactly is DEMA competing with it's members by holding an expo show? Also, how is this a "money grab"? Does DEMA not charge exhibitors or attendees at the annual trade shows? How is it any more of a money grab than the $5 footlong I just bought from Subway? I am very confused as to why some...
To the best of my knowledge, the two biggest shows are in Chicago in February and Jersey March. Most divers in FL (where I live, and I'm guessing the state that has one of the highest concentrations of active divers) probably don't care to spend the time or the money to travel to either of those...
As an avid diver and consumer who does not work in the dive industry, I thought I'd throw in my two cents regarding this ever-so-controversial DEMA show that would be open to consumers. When I first heard of the possibility of a consumer dive show (or adventure show that includes scuba) I got...
