    Fundamentals course

Ok, I have almost decided to take the DIR Fundamentals later on this summer. But I've not decided for sure yet. I'm going to go into decompression/overhead diving sooner or later and having the fundamentals course "out of the way" would be good. Are there any more reasons for taking the...

    Trilam preferences

I dive with the 905. I don't have anything negative to say about it. So if you decide to buy it you will get a good suit.

    Rescue in a drysuit?

As many before me have said, you are positve in your drysuit. About flooding the suit. You are still positive. At least if you are wearing an undergarment that is meant for diving. This binds air pretty good, in fact so good that I could stay in cold water with my suit flooded when doing a...

    buoyancy with BP/W

I feel when I am neutral from the pressure changes in my ears. If I go up I exhale and if I go down I inhale. If I need to breathe with my lungs filled to the limit I add some gas to the wing. If I have to exhale all gas from my lungs I dump some from my wing. That's all there is to me. No need...

    So....what is a DM anyway?

Here in this part of the world the DM's main tasks is to help out the instructors during training and manage the dives a LDS arranges (from land). Guiding divers underwater is quite rare. Some also work in the shop selling stuff.

Frog Kick: The Cleaner Way To Get Ahead

The best thing with the frog kick is that you can balance yourself easily by allowing just enough air in you boots to stay horizontal. Much harder to do when using the flutter kick. Thats why I use the frog kick exclusively when in my dry siut. In the pool I can do all weird kinds of kicks, but...

    free flowing regs.

It depends. Turn the mouthpiece down could stop it. Put your hand in front of the mouth piece could stop it. But if it is frozen you have to turn off the air.

Need a little help fine tuning my bouyancy

What you want to do is lower the tank as much as possible. a lower center of gravity makes you more stable. You could still be tilting backwards, but not as much as before. The last bit could be trimmed with a weight belt.

How do YOU enter the water?

I do the entry that best suits the situation, as simple as that :) I have been doing mostly backwards roll. That's because the boats I've been diving from have been very suitable for the backwards roll. If on a larger boat I guess it would be the giant stride.

    Supervising training question

I was doing the DM internship thing in the pool earlier this week. It was CW 5 in a PADI OW course. The instructor was evalutating some skill with one student while I was supervising the other 3 students right next to the instructor. The students I supervised were all doing the fin pivot to get...

Warm to Cold: Tips for making the transition between dive environments?

I suggest you take the first dive to train on mask removal and other skills. It is quite a bit different when using thick gloves and a hood.

    Who dives to 600 feet?

Well, I guess it makes people safe to know that their regulator works fine at more than four times the depth they want to dive to.

Deep Dive and rule of thirds

Of course you can use nitrox and it makes a difference. When I ran the numbers in my head I thought it would be closer to 25%, my bad, not used to using feet (isn't it 3 feet = 1 meter?). But the point remains the same, even with 8 more minutes the gas supply will last much longer than the...

    Weighting,Stupid Question !!!!

I'm wearing my belt so it can be ditched easily. I responded to the thread about the DIR way, which is either way. The one time I can understand why you don't want to be able to ditch the belt easily is when you're having a hard ceiling (overhead envirenoment). Otherwise I rather take my chances...

    Weighting,Stupid Question !!!!

You can have the belt outside the crotch strap if you want to be able to ditch it easily. In the fundies book I believe it says you can have it either outside or inside the crotch strap. The recomendation is to have it inside the strap if you're diving dry (you have two independant bouyancy...

Deep Dive and rule of thirds

If I were to do this dive it would have to be on air (no trimix training and nitrox at this depth is almot air anyway) which would mean very little bottomtime. In fact after such dives I usually surface with more than half of my gassupply, as do my buddy, so why would you need the rule of...

    7' Hose for Mares Abyss

I bought an adapter from 1/2" to 3/8". The problem is that some hoses don't like the little "tube" inside the 1/2" port. I have my backup in that port, the long hose won't fit because of the tube. Just something to think about before you buy the hose.
