    Carnival Inspiration May 16-21

The entire experience was incredible. The schedule in the Caymans is a little tight but they pick you up and drop you off at the port. The dives were great. My wife and I both enjoyed the diving in Cozumel better but the Caymans was great too. We would be happy to do this cruise again, but...

    Are cold water divers better?

Started out in cold water with low vis. I would imagine that it is easier to transition from cold water/low vis to warm water and high vis than the other way around.

    Great White off Central Florida

What a great video. Not sure I could have been that calm about it!

Using LDS for a fitting room

As I stated in the other thread, we have one LDS that is almost always less expensive than most internet sites to start with. If they are more expensive, they will match the internet price just to get the business. Personally, I will buy from them even if they are more expensive just to...

    LGBTQ Divers?

Well said...sexual preference/orientation has nothing to do with diving.

LDS Charging to TRY ON wetsuits???

This sounds crazy. I would not pay to try a wetsuit on. That being said, I would not use my LDS as just a fitting room. As for lower prices on the internet, I have found one LDS in the area that almost always has prices as low or lower than most web sites. If not, they will match the price.

To Nitrox or not to nitrox ,Why and how ?

As far as training goes, we had to do the extra classroom work and do 3 dives pushing nitrox. At first, I could tell a difference in how I felt after a dive, now I can not tell a difference.

    Discover Scuba safe?

My wife and I looked into the Discover Scuba program before our cruise. We decided to get our OW cert. before the trip. We met a couple on the ship that was doing the Discover Scuba. They had a very negative experience. They felt very pressured and rushed. Overall it was not a good...

    What's your TBT on a AL80?

So for, my longest dive with an al80 was 48 min with an average depth of 40 ft. I was limited by the boat as this was the second dive of the day. I got back on the boat with almost 800psi left in th tank.

Exposure gear for Open Water Stdents in Cool (cold) Water

Great idea. When we did our OW dives, the water was 47 at the surface and 44 and about 15-20 feet. There was one experienced diver there with his wife, a beginner, who did not wear a hood. This encouraged others to go the first dive without one. Not a good idea. If our instructor did not...

first pool session today and some questions

As you gain a little more experience, you should be able to shed some of the weight. I am 6' 0, 195. For my checkout dives I was in a 7mm with 7mm hood, 7mm boots and 3mm gloves, and I needed 24 lbs. The last time I dove the quarry, in the same gear, I only used 16 lbs. Both times I was using...

    Newbie Dive Boat Question

Very important, we did a two tank dive in Cozumel last week. Two of the rental regulators started to free flow, one on the surface as soon as the air was turned on. Fortunately it was not mine or my wifes, but I will not travel again and depend on rental gear. On another note, we had one...

    NAUI Asst. Instructor vs. Divemaster

I am working toward my instructor certification. My instructor, also a course director, told me I should consider going the route of asst. instructor instead of divemaster because it is a little less expensive and there is not much I could do with a DM cert vs. an asst. instructor cert. Anyone...

    SSI Crossover

I am currently in the NAUI program, but family concerns may cause me to have to relocate to an area where there is no NAUI shop. What are the requirements to crossover my NAUI DM/Instructor certs to SSI?

Is a normal to have a buddy on a divemaster-led dive?

So far we have had to buddy up on every dive. All dives have been led by a dm or instructor. On the charters, the dm made sure everyone had a buddy and if not they were assigned one.

    Trouble with ears

My wife had the same issues. She now uses the IST Pro-ear mask. It works well for her. She has no issues with her ears and it takes her no longer than others to reach depth.

Why junky, why not top of the line?

This is true, but is also worth noting that personal preference as well as comfort play a role here. For example, my wife uses a mask without a purge valve, and I prefer one with. She likes her split fins, and I love my Oceanic Vipers(which cost half as much). Plus there is a learning curve...

    Need help with sea sickness

I used Bonine on our recent dives. I had no issues, but the seas were very calm. Not sure if the Bonine was even necessary in those conditions but did not want to take the chance. We will find out for sure next time I am in 4-6 foot seas.
