In phuket use ScubaCat (Phuket Scuba Diving Liveaboards, PADI Courses, IDC Thailand) In Bangkok/Pattaya use Mermaids Dive Center. On koa tao, use sairee cottage. I have used them all and they are all top flight.

Sorry, but I have to argue that Pattaya is just fine for diving. You can do a day trip or stay at a resort. The coral is healthy and there are lots of reef fishes. Contact mermaid dive center.

Use of hands is fine for minor maneuver as described above. What I have observed in hundreds of students is the tendency to swim/propel oneself forward using the hands. When that happens, the student inevitably stops finning. The feet drop, head goes up and they are heading for the surface...
