Any tips for January Drysuit Course?

Don't ware cotton under the dry suit. If (when) the cotton gets damp, you will get cold. Don't overweight yourself. If you put enough air in your suit to relieve the squeeze and you still sink like a rock, you are overweighted. This is THE MOST COMMON mistake a new dry suit diver can make...

    Travel with SK

I'm taking a trip with my SK. I'm trying to decide if I want to put it in checked luggage or try to take it as carry on. If I put it in checked luggage I'll have it in a Storm Case. As carry one I would use a soft sided duffel. I'm reluctant to trust the airlines with my beloved SK. I've...

    dry suit buoyancy

Point taken! In my rant, I did not make an exception for my twin set brethren with their steel double tanks, steel back plates, steel stage bottles, steel reinforced spines and steely eyed gaze. :-) Don't forget that I also dive an MCCR. I understand that if your life support equipment makes...

    dry suit buoyancy

Ok, all kidding aside, here are the facts. </Rant mode on> You should dive with just enough weight on your belt to be neutral when your suit is empty. If you can hit the dump valve on your BC and sink like a stone, you are overweighted. Divers who are overweighted tend to plunge to the...

    dry suit buoyancy

I don't want to start a flame war, however. I use my DS for buoyancy control and my BC for surface floation only. Since getting a DS about 4 years ago, I have steadly managed to reduce the amount of led I carry. I'm down to 28lbs open loop and about 26lbs when I dive my Sports KISS and stage...

    New Diver, exposure suit recommendation

You might consider getting a Dry Suit. I have a 5 mill for Cozumel and a dry suit for cold water. I've never had a problem with being too hot in the water. On the other hand, I do live in Washington State. Just my $0.02.

    "Open Water" The Movie

Dud! I'm 52 and MY Mom still freeks out every time I go diving. I've been a diver since age 15. The fact is, if your lucky enough to have a good Mom, ( as you and I seem to be) you will ALWAYS be her little baby, and she will always worry about you. Comes with the turf. DIve Bear:popcorn:

    Keystone Jetty

Does anyone know if Keystone jetty is still open to divers? I'm thinking about making a dive on the Jetty this weekend and I've heard that there is construction there. Dive Bear

    Sanyo Xacti

So if I want one of these, where do I get one. Where do I find the housing in the USA. Does anyone sell a pakage (camera and housing).

    Sanyo Xacti

So Has anyone gotten any new information on this combo. I looked at the website for that housing and they don't seem to have a dealer in the US. :( However, I do like the camera. I think I'll just wait and see.

    Question for Drager Users

Just a silly question. I dive my Drager with a 13cu pony on my left which I use to inflate my dry suit and BC, and a 19cu on the right which is for bailout only. I have to scoot my main nitrox bottle over to accommodate the longer 19cu pony, but I would not have it any other way. I use tiger...

New sensor - what should I expect

I will never dive any rebreather without some kind of PO2 gugage. If I were on a dive boat, and my Drager Oxyguage punked out on me and I could not find a replacement, I would not dive the unit. It is true that if all goes well, and you use the proper gas mix you stand a very good change of...

    pure o2 rebreather question...

Before you blow yourself up (or get your eyes sucked out) get a copy of Vance Harlow's Oxygen Hacker's Companion from Airspeed Press. That way, you'll be able to blow yourself up the right way. :-)

New sensor - what should I expect

I dive a Drager with an Oxyguage. I've had it almost two years and so far it is a good dependable unit. If you are going to calibrate the Oxyguage, you must do it within a few seconds of power up. To calibrate the Oxyguage, remove it from the counterlung. Turn the Oxyguage on, then press the...
